WHV both Blu-ray and HD DVD.
If Fox or Disney go to HD, the dominoes will fall and HD DVD will win the battle.

gonelifting said:Hmmm, what if Univ and Paramount go to BR? What kind of statement was that?
Is one format potentially better than the other? I thought BR was.
hawaiianflash said:Actually, the format war is the best thing for consumer right now. If there was no war, there would be no incentive for Sony to lower the price of their Blue-ray player. Now, the blu-ray player has dropped from $999 (outrageous) to $599 (expensive). I attribute that to the hardware war that Sony and Toshiba are waging. There is no way paramount will go BD because they just announced their decision a month ago.
HD DVD COGS are cheaper
It's cheaper to code HD DVD
Picture quality is the same
Blu-ray has a very slight advantage in sound quality (not noticable for most people)
Blu-ray has more potential for bonus features. However, it is so expensive to program that suff that we are not using the full potential and I don't expect we will in the future.
On the same title, Blu-ray sells 30%-50% more units. However, earlier this year it was outselling HD by 200%. HD has made a comeback lately.

I've seen both in demonstration on a 100k projector and 200k sound system (here at the WB studio lot) and I could not tell the difference.
I think all the studios should support both formats and the consumers should decide what they want. I guarantee that the lower price of HD DVD will win out vs. the very slight quality difference of Blu-ray. In the meantime, I'd hold out on buying hardware because the market could really go either way.
