I'm having to get COBRA coverage because they stopped covering my shoulder issue. How much more would the premiums be versus when I was paying through my employer I wonder?

I thought this was gonna be about peeps who had pet cobras

A LOT MORE. Luckily there is something called ARRA - government subsidy for people being covered under COBRA. It only lasts for 7 months but it is better than not.

I dont know what type of cobra you have but my premium for when i was employed was over $300 and now my premium for the same insurance is $116. But I was laid off and didnt intentionally seek new coverage because of something that wasnt covered anymore. his issue with that might be different.

the premiums for cobra are outrageous. i have my insurance license and i now all about it. the only reasons a person would get cobra is 1. they can afford it (most cant) and 2. you have serious medical issues that without insurance you would be paying out the ass for procedures you know you need. you have to weigh your options and see if its cost effective to keep the insurance. if you don't have a serious need for it right now then i wouldn't keep it.

Our cobra payment is just under 1K a month. Before the old grump's contract was up it cost coupla hundred.

United Health Care - 2 of us.

must be united or something, my premium with BCBS is hella better than when I was even working.

LOL.
Depends on how much of your premium your employer paid on your behalf, also they're allowed to mark the full cost up about 15% or so to cover "expenses". But there is the gov't subsidy that someone mentioned which will help a lot if you're eligible.

You are 24 and healthy? And it is just you? ..then it makes sense.

My husband is 58. At the time he had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am 42 and have chronic gastro-intestinal problems.

:whatever:

They can only mark up the price 2% to cover admin costs. Believe me it's a pain in the ass to administer COBRA.

Most companies outsource it.

Big Travis, I don't understand your initial post.

"I'm having to get COBRA coverage because they stopped covering my shoulder issue."

That doesn't make sense. COBRA is offered when you either resign or are terminated from your employer. It has nothing to do with health issues....

I quit the place where I got hurt. Then just the other day the WC ins. said they weren't going to cover it anymore so I'm having to get it to be able to go to therapy and doc visits while the att. hash things out.

Ah, I got ya. That's cool. Eventually you'll get reimbursed assuming you aren't BS'ing the work comp carrier. What were you doing when you hurt your shoulder?

That's what pisses me off. I'm not BS'ing. Without going into great detail. Myself and two other guys my size were in a conflict when we all fell on my right side and I threw my arm out to catch the fall.

I had it a long time ago. I think I had to drop it after one month because it cost so much.

wtf? W/ a story like that I'm not surprised they are denying your claim.....a "conflict"? lol

PM me if you don't want it on the open forum, I usually work on the employer side of these things and may actually be able to give you some advice...for what it's worth.

I'm having to get my attorn. to get a loan on my monit. settlement to get the coverage.
Seriously, rob. When I saw the monthly premium I thought it was a one-time payment for 3-6 months. When they said it was only one month I couldn't believe. It was about what my salary was.

It is shocking. But it shows what your employer was paying on your behalf the entire you were employed.

Spy, that's only if you're involuntary discharged. If you resign or are let go for misconduct, you don't get that "stimulus". I had to shoot some people down who were applying for it when they actually resigned. Either way, I don't agree with that portion of the ARRA.
