Not in the United States of America.

Please inform me why I should have to pay for someone's healtcare. We have had this discussion many time before. The canadian system sucks. It is abused to no end, thus meaning the really ill are less likely to be treated with timely care.

You should pay for someone's else healthcare because some people have not been as fortunate as you and do not have themeans to pay for their won medical treatment.

You never know what is in stock for you in your future....

if you wanna know where you stand, then take the questionnaire here: http://www.politicalcompass.org/. As they do, i also think that the simple one-dimensional left-right categorization ist not able to tell about someone's political beliefs. This

is a much better system to show where you stand.

I am with Milton Friedman (Economic Left/Right: 8.00; Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.62). Post your score.

You are kidding right? Would you also like for me to pay for their food, clothing, or housing? How about their crack habit or 35 kids?

Give me a break...

Actually no I am not kidding... Developed countries are rich enough to provide health care and decent housing to everyone.

Of course there are limits to that but I had rather pay more taxes and know that every NON VIOLENT person is taken care off than saving a little more money and having people die of illness in the street.

Regarding food, shelter and clothing, I think that everyone should have the right to decent conditions. Nothing luxurious or nice, just decent.

"35 kids" is a problem but if you help and educate these 35 kids maybe they will not have "30 kids" themselves and will not develop a "crack habit"...

As I said it is only "maybe" but if you do not help them you can be sure that they will turn into crack addicts and will have "35 kids"

When I hear that Bill Gates alone is richer than the 100 millions poorest Americans it makes me think that something is wrong...

Now I am all for capitalism and Bill Gates can be proud and say fuck off to all his detractors but the figures are not right....

Authoriterian/Libertarian: -3.95.

That's funny , I would have always felt that most people in my country regarded me as on the extreme right of economic policy (do not believe in the existence of a welfare state) and quite authoriterian (against abortion/drugs/gay adoption legalisation). Well mercy me , I'm a tree-huggin hippy after all!

The reason Hillary Clinton failed is because the big insurance companies were scared shitless, and did everything in their power to make sure they will continue to have the right to price gouge all Americans.

In short, money defeated a person's right to healthcare. But we still have hope that someday all Americans will have universal healthcare.

You're exactly right. Money did defeat the universal healthcare system. Do you know what keeps this nation alive? It's that money. You're exactly right that the big insurance companies were scared shitless. They'd like to stay in business. And if you knew anything about our nation's economy, you'd want them to stay in business too. I guess you didn't know that insurance and reinsurance firms hold the vast majority of our nation's liquid and semi-liquid capital. Do you know what would happen if the big insurers started going down? They'd sell off the hundreds of billions of dollars of stocks they own, and then we'd spiral into a depression.

So RyanH, practice what you preach, look at both sides of the coin.

political issues like those often seem to arise from boredom... we all seem to get along so much better and are willing to compromise quicker when there is common enemy to hate... like now...

politicians have become affable... the national anthem is covered by bar bands... ryan agrees with dubya... 2thick agrees with matt... lets all hug...:)
