WHite blood cell question??

Went for my annual medical yesterday.

Just got a call back from the nurse at the Dr office. She says my urine came back showing elevated White Blood Cell count and I have to come in to take another test tommorrow.

Is this a sign of infection, or can something like the flu cause Elevated WBC count????

Elevated white blood cell count can be for many reasons, and yes the flu is one of them. Anytime ur body is fighting off an infection they can raise. Very OCCASIONALLY it can be a sign of something more serious, which is why they'll check it again, probably by blood rather then urine. Certain medications can cause them to rise as well.

The "flu" would not cause an increase in WBC in your urine sample. If you have WBC in your urine, it is from a urinary tract infection.

anything el;se raised?

nitrites?

glucose? proteins? red cells? clasts?

When I was a kid, I was in the hospital with mono and the doc said my WBC count was 3 times the norm. I had like a 104 temp and was hollucinating. But that doesn't help you out any, just wanted to share!
