Do you guys switch off between straight leg Dead lifts and bent knee Dead lifts? Back in the day our football coach used to make us switch on and off betweenthem. I did straight legs for the last month... but yesterday i did them and felt a pain in my back.. i don want to get injured.. since i wanan cycle soon. Any tips?

personally Ive never tried straight legs. I do alternate between deadlifts off the floor, deadlifts off the rack, barbell hack squat off the rack and barbell hack squats off the floor though.

i never do stiff leg DL's. too much strain on the knees

if you want to, do romanian deads (slight bend) or deads in the conventional and sumo style. you'll get more than enough hamstring work.

For the record, they are called "Stiff legged," not "straight legged." Also, there are more than those 2 exercises.

As for deadlifts, I do them conventional. Sumo is uncomfortable for me.

For hamstring work, I prefer RDLs. But, I do SLDLs on occasion.

There are countless other variations, but these are the ones I've worked on.

Monday I do SLDL after squats for the hamstrings, and Friday I do regular deadlift for the erectors, although both hit hamstrings/ erectors.

I'd go lighter on the SLDL's, they are for the hamstrings (maybe 70% of regular deadlift). So keep the form good. I keep my knees locked and blast the hamstrings nicely. Then go heavy on the regular deadlifts.

There are three types of deadlifts that I use in my routine:

I prefer:

1. standard deads from floor

2. partial deads off the rack

3. stiff leg deads for the hanstrings

I believe that rotation is the key
