LOS ANGELES, California (Billboard) -- Fans are still clamoring for the musings of MTV's newest reality star. Ashlee Simpson's Geffen debut "Autobiography" reclaimed the top spot on the U.S. pop albums chart Wednesday after a week at No. 2.
The album registered a 5 percent sales increase to 286,000 copies in the week ended August 8 following the season finale of "The Ashlee Simpson Show," according to Nielsen SoundScan data. Its three-week total stands at 955,000 copies.
The return of "Autobiography" to The Billboard 200 summit bounced the 16th installment of the "NOW That's What I Call Music!" series from No. 1 after just one week. Sales of the Universal/EMI/Sony Music/Zomba compilation slid 45 percent to 276,000 copies, causing it to drop to No. 2.
Jimmy Buffett's former chart-topper "License To Chill" (Mailboat/RCA) climbed one place to No. 3, while Usher's "Confessions" (LaFace/Zomba) also rose one, to No. 4, with 96,000 copies. Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" (Epic) rose one to No. No. 5 with 89,000 copies. Avril Lavigne's "Under My Skin" (RCA) jumped five places to No. 6 with 73,000 copies.
As Prince continues touring and including a copy of his latest album with each concert ticket, "Musicology" (NPG/Columbia) surged eight places to No. 7 on a 21 percent sales increase to 73,000 copies.
Warner Bros. country act Big & Rich's debut, "Horse of a Different Color" rose two places to No. 8 with 70,000 copies. Los Lonely Boys' self-titled Or Music/Epic debut edged up three places rises to No. 9. Rounding out the top 10 was Maroon5's "Songs About Jane" (Octone/J), which surged seven positions to No. 10 with 61,000 copies.
