Hey everyone! Id like to here everyones opinon on which exercise is best. Meaning, if you could do only one or the other which would you choose? And why? I cant give a fair opinion on this cuz I havent given squats much of a chance. ThanX!

Squats get my vote, my pulling goes up when my squat goes up but not the other way around.

full, high bar squats are my favorite lift. Try them and see why :)

I'm starting to believe GM's are superior to everything.

I would pick squat. The reason is (for me at least) squatting carries over to a bigger deadlift, while doing deadlifts and not squatting does nothing for my squat. So, If I absolutely had to pick one, it would be the squat. In my own experience a bigger squat brings up all of my lifts from bench to clean to deadlift right down to alternate d-bell curls. Nothing else I have done trains my body as one unit like a squat.

Personally, I think box squats and GM's and addressing weak points is great for bringing a lift up and breaking past barriers, but as far as getting the most out of one exercise I feel that squats have no equal, and there is not even a close second.

Thats interesting....how many of you feel that getting stronger in squats will increase deadlift?

I stopped deadlifting for 6 weeks and concentrated on full squats, power cleans, and lower back conditioning work. My deadlift went up 30 pounds. I was very pleased with these results.

I would choose squats. . . . excellent for overall body strength.

I can build a large back without deads. . .all I need in a back program is rows, chins, and good mornings.

I love squats, and would probably call them the king.... but I have always noticed a fundamental difference in my body when I am doing deadlifts... kind of a brute strength aspect if you will...

I feel lighter on my feet and powerful from squats, but I do not get the effect I do from deads, no mattter how many squats I do...

In terms of what I like doing better? Deadlifts.

Which one is more important? Not sure, squats probably recruit more muscles though.
