When your workout sucks....

What do you do when you have a workout that sucks for whatever reason?

I got a wicked pain in my quadricep yesterday while doing lunges. I finally gave up and ended up just doing 4.5 exercises out of 12 planned. Bah. Since I do legs on Friday or the weekend, should I fit in an extra leg day early in the week to make up for what I missed, or just chalk it up as a crappy workout and live with it?

And, as you can see from my avatar... I need to work out my glutes quite a bit. :(
 
If I get pains in a muscle I'm working out, I stretch immediately. I then proceed to go lighter and if it continues, I stop. Do not hurt yourself. I love the avatar by the way!!! :Chef: :tuc:

If any particular excercise is bothering me, I'll try to substitute another excercise or go with a lighter weight until whatever is bothering me subsides. Don't bail on the entire session unless you've got one of "those" pains...you know, those "oh shit, that ain't good" kinda pains.

I've also been having some trouble with lunges, so for the time being, I've substituted high-rep sissy squats until my knee is back to 100%. Worked like a charm, my legs are whacked and I'm hobbling around quite nicely. :D

Yes, I'm on a three day split to accomodate a friend who wanted to start working out with me. Leg day is quads/hams/calves, 4 exercises each.

Her schedule changes at the end of the month, and I'll move us back to a 4 day split.

JC must be at the gym all day doing that much volume. That is nice of you I sure as hell wouldn't accomdate someone else like that. LOL

Depending on equipment availability - our routine runs from an hour and a half to an hour and fourty five minutes. Then I squeeze in 15 minutes of cardio and race to the kids area to get my munchkins before my 2 hour limit runs out.

If I could get her to do more super sets it might help some.... *sigh*
