When you were a kid....

....and you didn't want to eat what your family was having for dinner what did your parents do?

Mine said tough. You either ate what they were having or you went hungry.

My coworker was just telling me that every night she has to make her 8 year old an entirely different meal because he's so picky. WTF? That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

never a problem when you were just happy to have food. Try fried bologna and oodles of noodles for weeks on end

I had to learn to like it. I'd have to sit there until it was done, so I learned that things I didn't like tasted better hot than they did cold.

When I was younger, my parents sometimes forced me to eat things I did not like. I refuse to do that to my son. I try to make dinners that I know all three of us will enjoy. Why make a dinner I know someone in the house won;t eat? Would I make a meal that my husband wouldnt eat? no, I would not. But, if I know my son has eaten it before, then he has to eat it or he gets nothing else the rest of the night. Sometimes his dinner plate sits on the table until he goes to bed. That way if he tries to say "Im hungry" later on, I point to it and say, "Eat up, mister."

I know people who do that...however when I was young...I had to eat whatever they made..........I mean I may try to cook what my kids wanted..if I had kids but I surely wouldnt let them turn themselves into brats or lose respect for me.....if they are hungry theyll eat...

Spoiled kids. They are everywhere thanks to dumbass parents.

Come to think of it, the only thing I disliked was when they put radishes in salad.

I guess I should be thankful I got to have side dishes...not even cows get side dishes of salad...they just grass...and hay...I mean, who likes hay? It's HAY for cryin out loud. Serve's em right for being bovine.

that is not good at all. i have an 8 year old and he gets what we give him and thats it. if we let him pick what he wants to eat and pick what he wants to clean then he will be in charge not us. mark my words, that child will be brought up to expect everything their way. the only time i give him a choice is when we go out to eat. then its fun watching him feel he's grown up and gets to choose his dinner. but at home he eats what we put on the table or nothing at all.

I was a Fatty when I was a kid and ate anything put in front of me..
ALL HAIL THE FATTIES !!

My Daughter is a very picky eater and my wife has been known to often
cook her a different main course about 1/3 or the time. She eats the sides.
Say if we are having hamburgers or Steak both of which my kid can't stand,
she will have Turkey nuggets and will eat the side dishes we are eating.

Of course since my wife is also a picky ass eater this is OK with her.
bitch !

At my grandparents we had to eat everything that they made. They were old fashioned and grew up during the depression.
If we wined or didn't finish our plate my grandfather would get pissed and put his belt on the table! We ate everything.
BTW. Your co-workers kid is going to be gay!

And fat.

I was a picky eater as a kid. My parents would make me stay at the table 'til I finished. In retrospect, they should have stored the food & sent me away. I grew up hating veggies & eating the stuff I did like 'til the plate was empty, not stopping when I was full. Now I am paying the price. I woke up too late.

My evil stepmom used to try to make me eat pork and beans/ baked beans and I hated them. My dad would get pissed at her for trying to make me eat them because he told her from the getgo that I didn't like them and they were the only thing I didn't like along with fish.

I either ate what the family had or didn't eat. Which was fine with me as I will pretty much eat anything. My brother had some issues though as he was kind of a picky eater. This was all solved when I was about 7 when I asked my mom what was to eat and she replied with "whatever you fix yourself" In retrospect it was one of the best things she did, it taught me to be self reliant and also to be a good cook.

my parents were forced to eat their food when they were kids... so they did not do that with me or my brother. Instead of having issues with food... we had other childhood emotional issues... I wish I was forced to eat the food instead!

Had to sit there until I ate it. I wish my sister did the same for her kids. THey eat everthing BUT real food. Makes me sick

ALL HAIL THE WHITE MAN'S TUNA MAC

It annoys the hell out of me when people are really picky about food, maybe it's because I'm not exactly a finicky eater

This reminds me of a couple of girls I used to date. Both wanted to go out to dinner and then order dessert without finishing their meal. Why the fuck do you order more to eat if you can't finish you original meal. So I told them that if they didn't eat all their food then I wasn't buying them dessert.

Could be a big part of why I am single, I just hate people wasting food.

My parents always used to say, "There's kids in Africa/Bangladesh/India/L.A. who would kill to eat what you have, now eat you ungrateful little wretch!" Actually, my Mom would do that about once a month, when she got sick of my shit.
