When is it good to start training?

What do you think is a good age to start weight liftin? My kid is growing up, and he already wants to join me with the workouts. I don't want to bring him to the gym just for the sake of bringing him, so it would be cool to know from what age you think it is fine to do weights – of course under instruction.
 
I would say that it is good to start from 11-12 years – this is the age when I started doing weights, and I really enjoyed it. Besides, I was getting quite good results. So I think that the kid's body should be developed enough by this age. That, of course, if he does not have any special health conditions to keep in mind.
 
Thank you guys for the opinions. Mine is 11 years old, so I guess he is good to go now with training. How long you think should he stick to the pullups and pushups before starting the compound weights?
