When I was a child...

b fold the truth

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things."

"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known."

1 Corinthians 13:11 and 12

Just some food for thought...that might can be applied to life, lifting, learning, and this forum.

I like that verse......ive been feeling down latley, somteimes I feel like God hates me, but then I realize its my own fault. And sometimes its hard to try and make things better.

Taking control of a difficult situation and working your ass off to change it is one of the hardest things you can attempt. Only the strongest survive...

My girl is showing me that right now. I thought I needed to muster strength to support her. What I have to do is NOTHING compared to the sheer determination she's showing.

You're not alone bro :)

hey! im a christian here and i beileve that our lives and body is given by god's grace. Since god saved us on the cross, we were brought out of sins and would enjoy internal life. If god had not saved us, we would not even be here! Our ancesitors would longed be condamed and we would not even be born. so who are we to complain about out life? God saved us so that we can live a fruitful life and not a misable life. Instead of thinking on what has happened, y not save the time to think of how to solve it. Dont moan and condam yourself. instead, look for a way out!

Good quote... but sometimes, isn't it great to look at things through a child's eye?

I'd just like to say on a side note, that for about the last 10 yrs I have been pretty much against going to church and listening. I always thought that it was just someone preaching my head off, and trying to pound biblical stuff in my head. However, a good friend finally talked me into going to his church which he liked very much.

The sermon is a GREAT guy, explains everything he says and relates it to real life. Long story short, it has made me feel a lot better as a person, and I have been more focused than ever.

Just thought i'd share that :)

Very true.

Matthew 18:3 "and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven."

I prefer the likes of Nietzsche and Rousseau, if you catch my drift...particularly their works on civil religion *cough cough*

That's SOOO important for the more experienced to realize and understand.

Especially on a board like this.:)

waiting for this to turn into another huge off topic debate...

Not a debate to be started at all. I looked back the other day on the posts that I made on here a year ago...and laughed. I knew so much less then than I do now...especially about strongman and strength training.

I can't wait till next year when I will know so much more than I do now.

I love that kind of attitude.

I like to look back at my videos from a couple of months ago and laugh. I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. The more I learn, the less I feel like I know.

Hope this is not off-topic, but isn't there some kind of zen thing or quote from a kung fu movie where the guy says something like "you only know something when you begin to realize you know nothing"?

I like that approach

Bfold- How do you interpret the second part- That only with time you begin to see how you are percieved by those outside you?

True, B True, True

The older I get, the more I realize how much I don't know, even with whatever standard of success I've achieved.

It's not all about ME.

Good thread B-Fold. As a child I drank milk, and as a man I drink beer:D . Leave it to me to bring in the beer/pot/women aspect lol.

I really wish I could travel back in time to teach myself what I know now back when I was benching every day...

"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known."

Well, as time passes I interpret it diffently. I think that this is true for many things about the Bible. As time passes...the words speak to you in different ways.

As I would look at it at the moment...I'd think this:

As you grow older you should be able to look at your REAL self in the mirror and have an understanding of who you really are, what you stand for, and what your weaknessess in life are. As you stand and look at yourself in the mirror every day, only partially understanding who you REALLY are, you might just find that you are the person that others see you to be...be it child or man.

I dunno to be honest. I'd really like to do some more time studying Corinthians, the chapters around that verse, and try to find something to support it in the Concordance...to see what I could come up with.

That is a VERY good attitude to have IMO.

My girlfriend tells me all the time that I am the best person that she has ever met...because when I talk to her, even if I say that I do not like someone...I still say something GOOD about them no matter what. I also will go out of my way to make a difference in their life.

I can only imagine when I have a little daughter one day...

no i havent seen her in a tizzy, but your mom described her getting all mad and knocking out the guys she plays soccer with, a very funny story.

well, if i was dating your daughter i would ofcourse be scared of you becuase of your size, and strength, quickness, explosivness, and your martial arts back ground.

but its like nefi would be the secret weapon that would beat the crap out of the guy without knowing what hit him.

he will wake up and be like: " i was making out with my girlfriend in a parked car, all of a sudden her massive dad jerked me out of the car, and a little person came like a shadow and ripped me apart!?!?!?"
