When Do You Change the Batteries in Your Smoke Detectors??

Do you have a regular time period when you change them?

Or do you wait until they start beeping the "Low Battery" warning?

OR.....Do you continue to let it screach at you until it just becomes a part of your everyday life, like a certain friend I know????

really who? thats so bad! i change mine every month.. ;)

ideally you should test them monthly to ensure they are still operating properly. then change the batteries about every 6 months or so to be safe.

Local Fire authorities recommend you change the batteries once/year and suggest you do so at the end of Daylight Savings Time in October. This gives you a specific time of year to do so.

I find the batteries last at least 2 years but then you tend to forget when to change them. Either way, pick a day you will remember and change them at least every 2 years.

my mom does it every time the clock changes. I havent changed mine been here 1 1/2 years. I test it often and it will alarm me when batteries die.
