I think overall your statement is accurate. However, you are mistaken if you say that anyone who says this is full of shit.

At 5 I tested 157, at 14 I tested 152, and at 23 I tested 156. All were professional tests. The first two when I was young had to do with my parents divorce and other things with school, I was tested at a professional facility. The one I took in law school, I took for other reasons. I wanted to make sure all that pot I smoked, did make me stooooopid. :lmao:

Here's something for you to think about that might shock you a little about the deterioration of your intelligence quotient. At age five, you probably took the Stanford-Binet test. That test is kind of the benchmark for child intelligence testing. That is/was probably your true IQ.

Now, David Wechsler sought to remove some of the linguistic and cultural biases of that test and thus was born the Wechsler Adult Intelliegence Scale, and the Wechlser Intelligence Scale for Children.

Now, in law school, you weren't given the Stanford Binet, you were probably given the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, on which you scored a still impressive 156. However, the WAIS is criticized for producing inflated scores, or rather scores that produce an inaccurate and non "apples-to-apples" comparison with the Stanford-Binet.

One reason that IQ scores of adults can't be accurately compared to those of children is that the three year difference in IQ from age 27-30 is totally different from the three year difference in IQ between ages 7-10.

So, it stands to reason that you should have scored higher (perhaps significantly) as an adult taking the Wechsler than you would have as a child taking the Stanford-Binet.

So, to make a long story short, the weed (or some other factor) has made you stupid over the years.

HAHA, uhhh, no. After law school was over (or durning really), I got a job offer making much, much more money than I would have made in law. Since then I have been working in software sales.

i used to take those tests as a kiddie, too, and yes just like you fuckers they all said i was a genius. Odd thing is, though, I have met a SHITLOAD of people which claim they tested as geniuses, but NONE who took those tests and went to special ed.

Everybody has an IQ of over 130, with many over 150. ROFL.
100 is average. 130 is the top 98th percentile. Meaning 2% of people in the world fall into this category.

Looking at some of the grammar and intellectual quality of many of the posts on this site, none of you fall into the 98th percentile. IQ score drops drastically by age also. Somebody that is 30 years old claiming an IQ of 150 is full of shit. Sorry to burst this test's bubbles.

I seriously doubt there is more than one or two posters top on this site that have an IQ of more than 120.

Internet IQ tests are not accurate, and are created to cause a person to feel good. Not accuracy.

121-150 is above average
150+ is considered to possess a genius-level intelligence, but is NOT a genius
180= Genius

you can also be a genius is the 160-180 rabge, but more often than not you simply posses genius level intelligence, but are not completely there

I know for a fact that I could have only missed two at the most (numbers 37 and number 40 - couldn't figure them out with one positive answer).

so either those two are scaled to be very heavy in weight, or the test isn't scaled properly.

Really? According to WHAT test? Internet tests? Bah, do you really think MENSA is going to accept an Internet test, bolstered up so that numbers look and sound impressive? To make the test taker feel good about themselves?

The leading scale used is the Standford-Binet scale. According to this site the scale is similar, but the percentiles are wrong from what I even put.

125 - 134 Gifted University
135 - 144 Highly gifted
145 - 154 Genius
155 - 164 Genius
165 - 179 High genius

FYI - percentiles change year to year as testing and people can't remain constant. So what was in 1985 will not be what is in 2002 and besides - HIGH IQ does not mean a thing - it will make no guarantees as to a person's success or failure.

What age were you when you took your IQ test? Which test was it? 163 is really high, so of course it sounds like BS. If you were 10 or younger when you took it, 163, while still impressive, isn't the same as a 25 year old getting that score. (or however old you are)

163 is genius, Einstien is said to only have 160, think about what you are claiming. Potential or not, I doubt very much if you took the stanford-binet test you would get that high of a score.

Nah, just something that annoys me. People ALWAYS claim high IQ, it never fails. Strange really, all my friends claim 120+ IQ, many claim 140+, yet none know what they are really claiming, they just think they are saying they are above average. I would imagine half of them have never actually taken a REAL IQ test, just some internet junk.

So if 85-114 is average, where are all the people that fall on the low scale? It is bullshit, see? People don't put thier real IQ, just as women don't like to put thier real age.

Yeah, high IQ scores really don't denote much. Everybody is different when it comes to how thier brain works. A standard test to compare each person is a bit silly. Intelligence doesn't mean squat if all a person uses it for is to flaunt it around making themselves feel important.

I was 14 and it was for the high school I was in - long story.
I had to take it and took it under protest.

I don't remember the name of test quite honestly, perhaps Hofstra still does them. From what I remember there were multiple choice questions, english, math, history and red white and black cubes.

The results have done nothing for me in my life except for the following school year when the principal started treating me like a human being.

I still get a kick out of the goofball tests you can take on the internet but again it's just for fun.

i just asked her... if you are older, you likely have "crystalized knowlege" and you'll score higher. numbers vary on what test you take, and apparently those who score between 120 and 130 tend to do more successfully in career, etc. according to studies.

55-74 is educably retarded
75-99 low average
100-110 is average
110-120 still average (i forget what type)
121-130 is high average
131-140 gifted

Just out of curiousity, how was that conclusion made?

If IQ is supposedly measured best when someone is a child, what did they do? Get a bunch of children from all over the world, make them take an IQ test, and then guess that the rest of the world must be the same?

Oh yeah... do you know of any online IQ test whose results may be even remotely comparable to that of the Standford-Binet test? I am curious about my "actual" I.Q., since I do consider myself to be at least "somewhat" above average intelligence (*grin from ear to ear*), but, due to that "somewhat" above average intelligence, I'm not going to pay somebody to tell me how smart I am.

Sorry, I must have missed that. If you got mid 160's on this test, that is understandable, seeing how inaccurate it is.
It is possible velvett scored this high, it just screams bs, thats all. A 160 IQ is very rare. If you say you scored 160 on the S-B test I would not believe you.(without proof) Not to say your not intelligent, just that your probably not a genius with 160 score. .009% of people can claim 160, which probably works out to like 10k people in the world. Do you really claim to be one of those 10,000? Are you a MENSA member? Do they harrass you to join? They would if you scored 160 on the S-B.

Smalls: There are several tests, with a bit of variance. The chart I quoted is correct for the Stanford-binet. Dunno what test your chart is. I am pretty certain that children score higher than adults on the stanford-binet test.

Warik: There isn't an internet version of the S-B. It is taken in person, one on one(no way to cheat). It is also timed. I am sure there are some somewhat accurate IQ tests, but I don't know of any that come close to the ones that matter. Might try Brain.com, they have quite a few links to IQ tests.
The 1% is based on an average of people that score that high. Of all the people that take that IQ test, only 1% of the people get 135 or higher. The link I thought I posted that had that quote must have gotten misplaced. I will repost it.

Not really. Assuming 'individual success' is defined by the accumulation of monetary wealth - a high IQ increases the probability an individual will be able to efficently integrate and process increased amounts of information associated with working in a capitalistic economy.

Take the two extremes. Which individual is more likely to enjoy monetary succecss, a person with a 60 IQ or a 160 IQ?

Yes, a high IQ doesnt cause people to become successfull. But a high IQ *significantly* increases the probability individual monetary success will be achieved.

Btw, current IQ tests do not test purely factual knowledge, or historical knowledge. I just find it really hard to believe some people (corn, velvette) have legitimate 160+ IQ scores. Possible, but hey.

I don't take well to being called a liar - so believe me it will be MY pleasure to try and prove it. Could take a while, would mean I would have to speak to father whom I have not spoken to in 4 years, entering a house 3 hours away but let me tell you it will be so worth it.

Oh and btw epimetheus - Hofstra University was after me to take more tests for some time - but if you knew anything about me you would know that to me at that time the whole situation meant being different than everybody else and what most teenagers want, is to be just like everybody else.

btw - if 1-2 % of the population is "gifted" then anywhere form 400-600 people on EF qualify......why do you think that 4-5 people posting is so unbelievable??

Sue me if I find it boring watching people brag about how high thier IQ score is, when they can hardly form a coherent sentence. (not you or velvet either) I only "picked" on her, as you say, because she claimed she was a Genius. With a Ungodly score.

Granted, I don't know what she does for a living, what kind of books she destroys (because at that IQ, challenging material would be hard to find), or much about her except what I see on this message board. Nothing I have seen suggests she has Einstiens Intellect either. Or you for that matter.

Sure, you both are funny, witty, and I have always thought you intelligent, but two people on this message board that are that much of a genius? Possible, but highly unlikely. Unlikely enough I would put large sums of money on it. Stanford-Binet test anyhow, which is tougher than an internet test.

Anyhow, this horse is pretty much dead, so beating it is pointless. It doesn't matter what you claim your IQ is, just as it doesn't matter if you claim to have a 9" tool. It is the INTERNET, few people probably believe it anyhow, and if you did really have an IQ of 160, you probably wouldn't care to brag about it, you would be pontificating on some deep subject, reading some science journals, composing a song, or writing a dissertation on a new theory you have about wavelength modulations in light on a crystal or some crap.

You gonna come to my house and "try" to beat me up for saying that I think it unlikely you really are a genius of Einstiens caliber? No...the standard deviation on the S-B is 16, with a mean of 100. So, you hit 98th percentile at 132 (not 99th at 135), I think 1% is somewhere in the low 140's. Keep in mind there are >5.5B people on the planet and 2% of this number is still a very big number.

n the library they had a CD once with some IQ tests from Mensa and a time limit on them, i scored about 120 , so i´m probably the only one too stupid for Mensa on the board. i feel so left out now :bawling:
 
For those that think that velvett is lying or exaggerating, you have obviously never spoken with her. She is probably the most together person on this board. I promise you she does not need your approval or anyone else's for that matter. She has her faults, just like everyone, but no one will ever accuse her of being a liar.
If she says she scored a 163 then I believe her, and you know what? It doesn't change one damn thing about her. She is still this incredible lady who can make anyone feel like they are special.
