Original Night of the Living Dead because it scared the crap out of me on Halloween when I was 10. Romero did it best, with suspense, not shock.

For comic relief Return of the Living Dead is pretty good plus some good zombie chomping.

for the reality sake of a zombie movie, dawn of the dead remake was head and shoulders above all else.

28 days/weeks later were both real good but distant second and third from the dawn remake.
