"We're off to outer space
We're leaving Mother Earth
To save the universe!
Our Star Blazers!"
Got up at 6:00AM to watch that puppy back in the day. Everything that studio did was fantastic (Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock), if a bit hard for a gaijin to follow.
"We need children to become part of the machinery. You shall be... a bolt."
You know it's funny, there is like a whole generation that loves and adores Star Blazers, but there is a cutoff point where no one knows anything about it.
One of the engineers at my company who is only a year younger than I am feels the same as me, it is the best cartoon ever made. The engineer next to him is a few years younger than us, and he has never even heard of it or seen it. We did a small poll one day (years ago now) and it seems like everyone (in our engineering office) born between 1970 and 1976 or so loves Star Blazers, and everyone born after that never heard of it.
