I've been lookin on ebay & the Warmoth site looking to maybe build an ultimate axe.
what would you guys build?

not a Warmoth, but i would like the Washburn Dime3 Southern Cross axe. That thing is beautiful.....I also like the Gibby Gothic Explorer.

Ibanez S470 Not really high end, but supersweet play.

If I were to build one, I would do something like the following:

Mahogany Body, 25.5" scale length, Strat style maple neck and fretboard with a little flatter radius. Medium-Large 22 fret. Newer Strat style bridge, Grover tuners, 1 High output Humbucker like Dimarzio X2N at Bridge (I got one and love it), Then a PAF Pro in the neck posistion. I don't like single coils too much and with the X2N you have coil tap anyways.

I have a guitar with an ebony board, although really slippery, I think it sounds a little too "dark" I like the bright sound of maple combined with humbuckers and dense woods.

I have noticed that a lot of crap guitars have decent necks. So, buy one of them and throw the rest away, then you can get a slab of X wood and router it out, bingo!, custom made guitar.

Be sure to post a pic when you build it.

I haven't made up my mind. I already have a fat tele (neck HB), & a double fat strat. I lost a 72 reissue strat in a house fire last year, & I miss the SRV single coil sound. (like I can sound like SRV)
I would probably have a humbucker in the bridge, with a single coil in the middle & neck. The warmoth bodies have so many variations, I'm thinking of either a hollow body strat with an F hole, swamp ash in butterscotch blond, with a maple neck/rosewood fretboard, Large headstock. Hard tail. (my double fat has a floyd rose)
If I do a tele, it would be similar, but I've seen a twangbucker HB with a really cool bridge & angled pickups. Would still do a single single, in the middle &neck, but with strat pickups, kinda like a Nashville tele. I have always liked the Bigsby trem look on a tele, so that might be an option.
I've thought about getting a cheaper guitar to get the neck, a used mexistrat or tele can be had on ebay for well worth the price of the neck. Even with all the factory combos, I can think of lots of things I'd like to do different.
Decisions, decisions.

built a custom tele back in the day, unreplicable tone. Building cost 1300, ebay'd it when I needed cash for 4,300. Electronics were moded by one of the foremost amp/pedal engineers in the industry.
