Whats wrong with ordering H20 at restaurants

WTF is wrong with the waitstaff when i order just water/lemon for my drink. Think i'm a cheapo and they won't make any money off of me from liquor sales.

Gave up alcohol and don't like soda and they think i'm cheap. But when the bill comes to $75 for 2 people, they sure know how to refill the water glass. Maybe on a cheat day, i'll get a beer, but since NYE, haven't had a lick of alcohol.

It is even funnier when I go to the bar with the tools I work with and order water from the bartender at some hole-in-the-wall joint, while all my coworkers are drinking Long Island Ice Teas. They think your nuts.

I'm happy to serve a glass of water to any customer who wants it. At least i know they arent getting rip roarin drunk, and i respect them for being the designated driver in most cases who is driving their drunk ass friends home. Shoot i always joke and say "free refills on that all night" or i say "i'm cutting you off youve had way to many" lol

What I don't like is when I ask for water, and they'll say back to me "...and for you, just water...?". What's with the "just"?! I hate that. It's WATER - full-fledged water, dammit! No "just" about it!

When I served I didnt think twice about a customer ording water only. What's the biggie? And I myself usually drink water only at meals.

sounds like you just got a butthole for a server. Trying to get her PPA up sounds like.

No fucking shit.

Seriously, I'm not a pushy person by any means, but in a place where they rank your performance based on PPA and salesmanship (including alcohol), you've got to at least SUGGEST something else. It's part of the job. After that, who cares? I'd rather serve you water than a damn soda anyday. But I won't make fun of you for ordering a water, unless you resemble a zeppelin and we all know you're dying for a coke and something deep-fried.

Not trying to an asshole here BUT, folks who come into restaurant and order water/lemon generally are CHEAP.

Adding a lemon is a way of turning a simple glass of water into a Bourgeois Cocktail (look how upscale I am I have lemon in my water:D) although I will only be tipping 5-10%

Any one who's been in the industry know's their clientele and can spot a cheapie from a mile away. They are on the picky side and are the type that would make a big deal out of a GLASS OF WATER.

i almost always get water with meals. i don't drink much else. after going to only water everything else seems too sweet.

but i tip 20%, so it's not because i'm a cheap bastard

I'm no cheap ass:D .. usually order appetizer and steak/chicken of some sort and my gf will get some wine/mixed drink along with her entree. Service good, give 20%.....bad 15%...for tip.

thats just saying someone who orders a beer at a bar is a cheap ass, since it costs less than a mixed drink

I almost always order water. I'm not keen on alcohol and I don't drink pop. I'm not a huge fan of lemonade or anything like that either. If I'm going out to eat changes are I'll be eating more calories than I usually would in a meal at home so why have hundreds of extra empty calories from beverages I don't even enjoy?

The problem I usually have with ordering water is the fact that is usually tastes like either a swimming pool or a septic tank..

It's hard to get good tasting Ice water at resturants(even with lemon), and for some reason Chineese Resturants are the worst..

I, for one, just drink water. Therefore I'm not going to buy a coke, or cocktail, considering I don't want them. Therefore why would I buy something else? Douchebag.

That was never my experience.

Its the people that immediately shoot down the idea of an appetizer or dessert that more often than not turn out to be crappo tippers.

And in my experience and that of every server I ever worked with there are definitely some demographics that are associated with bad tipping but I'm staying away from that.

SLICK: I'll reiterate..............Any one who's been in the industry know's their clientele and can spot a cheapie ( someone of questionable class) from a mile away. They are on the picky side and are the type that would make a big deal out of a GLASS OF WATER

ANYA: I simply tried gave reason or insight as to why a server might have a pause to someone ordering a water with lemon.

I've managed and been general manager of restaurants so i'm speaking from about 8+yrs of experience. The restaurants were in mid to uppermiddle income areas, and it was common every now and again to have folks come though town and try and fit in by ordering a glass of wtr/lmn. They were cheaper, and from the normal clientele yeah they stuck out so i'm not just throwing this out there

And in my experience and that of every server I ever worked with there are definitely some demographics that are associated with bad tipping but I'm staying away from that.

Can you please enlighten ME on these demographics you are staying away from and how they fit in the context of this discussion?
