What's up with Dave Matthews?

This guy has the entire white college hot girl population under his spell. He sings less than mediocre music with a monotone voice and all these college hotties douse their drawers whenever he puts out a new album. He must get so much play but I just can't understand what the attraction is. He's goofy and I don't see why people like his music.

Oh my god, him too. He plays at all the local college venues and all the hotties at my job bring his cd's along. It's Dave, John, and some guy, Peter Yorn playing all night. The girls fucking go apeshit for those chuckle heads. I swear, these guys must get head from a new girl every concert.
 
I know what you mean. I think it is because it's cool to like dave Mathews.

same as the sensation with Pearl Jam and the Tragically Hip (here in Canada).
 
Dave Mathews is in with the ladies cause hes rich, trendy and can sing.

This is my theory as long as your the top in something...even a sport like pro frisbe youll have girls after you, I have seen it.

Dave is fat and dorky. He is the farthest I've seen from trendy. I guess his music is just popular though.

some songs he sings are pretty good, But I don't understand the craze either. If I like someones music I wouldnt ubses over him and talk about DAVE all the time. I see college girls everywhere and there all under this DAVE craze. I say DAVE cause thats how the girls I know say the name of the band. lol
 
Dave's getting more play than all of us put together. Oh well, fuck it, i'm sunk.

I know girls here at school that splooge in their panties everytime one of those songs comes on.
 
HAHA, i fuckin hear yall, it pisses me off too. Girls are obssesive and shallow, yet they complain we are. They are all tools (except for my kelly :) ) so use them as such. if they havent grown up yet, then playing their ass just might help.


SOme of dave's songs are good, and some just plain suck. he has like 50 live cd's of all the same damn songs. his 'new' cd is actually not new, it was written a long time ago under the name "lily white sessions'. the only reason i know this is cause my friend who is a girl who is also in college with me is crazy about dave.

WHAT!!! You have got to be kidding me.

OK, he's not the greatest vocalist in the world, I'll agree with that. But the band is fucking incredible. The music on every album except "Everyday" is great.

The reason that college chicks like his music is because he fucking sings about relationships and sex in such a subtle manner. Women appreciate that, unlike men who (obviously) think it's lame.

God forbid you ever saw him and the band live. They'll go down in history (whether you like it or not) as one of the best live bands with The Greatful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, and Phish.

Green Day is a great live band, Dave Mathews is for geeks and potheads, and the girls that love Dave also love Britney Spears and NSYNC, so I wouldn't put any trust in their musical tastes.

Ha Ha Ha Ha. That's a great post. Greenday (your namesake) a "punk" sellout that plays 3 chords with songs about masturbation and drug abuse. Compared to Dave Mathews Band, who defy any genre, and have intelligent songs about life in the world today. Plus concerts that are 45 minutes comared to thsoe that are almost 3 hours..... Hmmmmmmm, right you obviously have a biased opinion.

For the record I'm a Greenday fan as well.

I went to a Dave Matthews concert with my girlfriend and I hated it, its not my type of music at all. I don't think Green Day sold out, because they never changed their music to sell cd's. They were never true punks IMO, they just played at Gilman to be heard by their friends and family. They are considered sell outs, because they signed with a major label, and sold millions of cd's. True punks would live in their parents basements, and work at a gas station. I told my gf this post would piss you off, lol.

Btw, whose concert is 45 minutes long?

Hey, if you went to a DMB concert and didn't like it, that's cool. I'm not trying to say that everyone has to be a fan. But to say that they write, arrange, and play bad music is a little odd. I mean the guys in the band (other than DM) are some of the best in their field,it's hard to say that they compare to Brittney or N'SYNC as they play instruments.

I've been to a 45 minute Greenday concert (in 1995), the band was good, the concert was too short. I never like leaving a concert at 9:15PM.
Whether they sold out or not isn't for our discussion, as I really enjoy their later material. Hell, I'd love to be in their shoes.

Btw, the post didn't piss me off, I enjoy everyone's opinion. Though, I just split with my girl tonight so.........Is your girl free tomorrow???

I went to 4 green day concerts and they were between 2 1/2 and 3 hours long each, I didn't go their concert with Blink 182, cause I considered that to be selling out IMO, but I still love Green Day.

I'm sorry you broke up with your gf, but my girl isn't available unless she dumps me before tomorrow.

Alright, there are a lot of young folk at a DMB concert..I'll give you that. It's these kids that have no idea of the really ability of the band itself. God forbid the know who wrote the covers that DMB plays.

I've never seen a Greenday show that went over 2 hours, or even and hour and a half and I've seen 6 (though all on the east coast).

My favorite album is by far "Insomniac". I can listen to it from start to finish and I love it. A). for the songs, B) for the memories. It just has that great combination.

FYI, tell your girl to call me in the AM. :D

I've listened to his lyrics and it doesn't matter. His songs all sound the same and they really aren't that good at all. I guess i'm in the minority though, cuz Dave owns the world.

Ok, I may be blinded by the fact that I'm a fan. Can you explain how each of his songs sounds the same to you? Is it musically, lyrically, etc. I justwonder why they aren't all that good, given the load of crap that a lot of artists put out today.

Well, they're all acoustic driven and accented by the same instruments such as an oboe or sax (not sure what taht thing is). I'm not sure but it's the same old sound with similar chords and beat. He doesn't change his voice a bit or play with diff. instruments. His songs are largely redundant and lackluster.

Many bands will play with diff. instruments, beats, whatever and even use different styles such as hard songs and ballads. Dave is all freakin ballads followed up by slow ballads.
 
DMB have different lyrics, but most songs have the same sound, which is great if you like that sound, but not so great if you aren't a DMB fan.
 
I went a DMB concert with my girlfriend, and I stayed through the whole thing, but when I got home we had sex, so the moral of the story, that day my ears and head suffered, but my penis was happy, and that's all that matters. Besides, the next day I played my green day cd's and got that DMB melody out of my head, and my penis was still happy, yeaaaaa.

Ok, we are not going to agree on any of this. No big deal. I just don't agree that the only songs "they" (the band) write are ballads.

The only reason I care is because that music is shoved up my ass sideways every freakin night. I'm sick of it. It's a live cd where he's trying to be funny between songs and he's fucking corny as a mofo. I feel like beating his mother for having him.

OK, this is another statement that makes no sense. You are irritated by hearing DMB every night. Yet, you are listening to a CD??? Change the fucking CD. Good Lord I don't listen to the same CD all the time.

I play my stuff sometimes, but it's hard to not get DMB on the cd player when the entire staff likes him. Of course, the entire staff is made up of hot college girls or stupid college guys trying to please the college girls.
