What's the deal with 20 rep squats?

You're supposed to do whatever your body responds to. You have to change things up all the time. Make your body adapt to new stresses.

You don't have to change things up all the time. That's a fallacy. You're not going to "shock" the body, or any such thing. It would be nice, but it doesn't work that way.

20-rep squats are more for show than anything. I'm sure they can help cause growth in the legs, but so can sets of 5, or sets of 3. They're fun to do once in a while. If you do them, use 1-2 sets.

Depending on your body's ratio of fast to slow twitch muscle fibers, people's bodys respond differently

Tom, I disagree with your statement that varying the duration and intensity of a workout isn't beneficial. What makes you say that, or is that just your personal opinion?

BTW, I'm not trying to flame, I'm just conversing.

Well modifying duration isn't something I've heard a lot about. Managing intensity, volume and frequency can be a good thing, but what I was getting at was more the idea that just changing up for no good reason (i.e., throwing in 20-rep squats at random) won't have any grand effect. Of course, periodizing training and setting up cycles is definitely a good thing.

Just conversing here too, b0r. That's what the forums are for. ;)

I just started doing 20 rep squats....not sure if I'm doing anything right, just experiementing with it...

I usually get light-headed after my last set....have yet to puke.

Start getting real nervous about rep 15 of last set....

1x10x35% of max - Warmup
2x10x50% of max
1x20x50% of max (GET A SPOT!)

Upping my percentages slowly.....after a few weeks of this, I'll go back to heavy, low reps....
