whats the big deal about deadlifts???

I'd have to say that squats are THE exercise, but deadlifts are a close second. They should hit your quads (a bit), hams, hips, back (including erectors and middle upper back), and core. And grip! And I probably missed some stuff there.

...what day do people normally do deadlifts on, cause i think i'm gonna find it hard to fit them in.

They are the main movement for my back when I do a 5x5

Yep. Put them on your back day, and try to distance them as far as you can from your leg day.
