whats a "good" poundage DB to do seated shoulder press with?

i use 60's and i have just had surgery about 6 months ago and havent weightlifted since before then i just got back so what does that say about me am i a pussy

You really need to focus on a weight that is most comfortable for you and then expand from there. Shoulders take so much abuse from lifting overall. I can tell you that I have had trouble with both my shoulders at different times over the years and its just a matter of not overworking them. If your focus is on increasing your bench, then there really is no need to tax your shoulders another day. I would just add something in on the bench day to allow more rest in between.

that's a very good point, shoulders get pounded with all the pressing we do so I view shoulder work more as a way of keeping them healthy than trying to press huge amounts of weight. Seated db presses with reasonable weights for higher reps after the heavy stuff is what I'm doing these days (with the occasional crack at heavier weights if I'm ever in a gym with decent DB's).. more assistance work then anything else

You guys must have some massive shoulders. I don't DB press but I'd estimate my max to be around 70 or so.

I stick with standing BB military and PP's.

while on cycle, my shoulder strength exploded more than anything, along with my shoulder size.

:)...

Yes - here is what can/could/did happen...to........

And then you go off cycle....shoulder size and strength diminishes. But along with that bunch of fun comes the tendon and ligament injury from feeling like you have superhuman shoulders (and everything else).

The tendons and ligaments grow much more slowly than lean muscle tissue. Therefore if you do not have a lot of muscle maturity and years of lifting, allowing the tendons and ligaments to strengthen to match the lean tissue...injury is very possible.

Be careful.

P.S. Pulled a muscle in my neck while pressing the 90s the other day. I've been out of the gym for 5 days now, and it looks like it will be a few more until I'm back. I'm rethinking whether I should be training shoulders heavy at all...
