I have a 6 year old niece. Her mother is separated from my brother and has a habit of picking boyfreinds that will support her unsavoury habits. Anyhow, one of these guys got a bit out of hand a while ago and stubbed a cigarette out on my nieces arm. He backed off big style once I discussed it with him. Now recently he has shown his face again and is basically scaring my niece shitless........

So tell me........what would you do?

Putting a cigarette out on a 6 year olds arm is unforgivable.

Well I live 6 hours drive away so that isnt so easy.........fortunately i have some quite large freinds in the area.

In this country we have Social Services. They know about the situation and school has called them in several times. So far she is staying with mommy........fuck knows why. Some liberal bullshit no doubt.

call social services and make a complaint. photograph the wounds. take her to the doctor and show the wound to her GP, and let her tell him about the abuse. consider legal council, or at least the citizens advice bureau

the GP can bolster your case with social services (the doctor will probably call himself), the photo;s and the girls statement should help. dont resort to physical violence until all other avenues have been exhausted as it will only strengthen the mothers case

should he not get custody i would think about 'warning' this guy verbally.....but do the legal stuff first, that second and whatever your imagination has for 3rd

First of all, you need to get to the bottom of how she got burned. It doesnt just happen spontaneously, what else was going on, etc.

It is a safe bet that the child was being loud or something but that really is irrelevant. You don't do that to a 6 year old girl.

If she was being really bad they could have taken away a toy or spanked her or any number of other things, but what he did is totally out of the question.

man brother youre in a tough spot. It would be very tempting to fly off the deep end and go wild on this guy, but you gotta think thats not a very good example for the little neice either. if legal options do not work, then i would seek some sort of vigilante justice, but make sure to cover yourself in this situation also, so that you dont get made out to be the bad guy.

What do you plan on doing about the mother? Even if you do do something about this guy, the root of the problem seems to lie with her and her inability to choose a decent man. If you dont take steps to fix the root of the problem, you may end up in this situation again.

Lots of good ideas. The guy deserves whatever he gets. If you are in a big city DFS can often be too overwhlemed to take care of something like this. He needs to be stopped though.

What do you plan on doing about the mother? Even if you do do something about this guy, the root of the problem seems to lie with her and her inability to choose a decent man. If you dont take steps to fix the root of the problem, you may end up in this situation again.

furthermore... i think what is of the utmost importance is that you find someone or some way to make her have some confidence or trust in you or someone at least as a male figure in her life. other than that she's likely headed down a tough road, a very tough road.
