What were you like in high school?

This is a pretty good thread. I was a pretty small guy. I was strong for my size but, still not good enough for the sports I tried. I was decent with my grades. Got along with just about anyone but, didn't go out of my way to meet anyone either. It was actualy after HS that I was forced out of my shell in the military. Now, I run a company and cover the entire US, I have more toys that I ever thought I would end up with but, the best part, I don't weight 140lbs anymore. lol I am up to 210 lbs at 5'8". I have only seen two people since HS that I went with. Neither recognised me. Oh yea, I also had glasses and braces. lol

Well, this may come to surprise yall, but I drank alot, smoked left handed hay alot and was friends with everyone, all 168 kids in my class. I tried sports but they got in the way of my "after-class" activities. I prolly had the worst job that someone like me could have, I worked in a pharmacy. That's not a good thing for a kid who has a good working knowledge of chemicals. Needless to say, I was generally on something if I wasn't at work or school.

I was in the band, played trumpet. Since the music was pretty boring, I used to spice it up to make it sound better. That's not generally what the band director wanted for some reason so I was in trouble alot for that. Funny thing, when the 1st chair player couldn't "get" the part, he used to hollar "TX, get up there and show her how this is played!" So, I was pretty good, you really just couldn't put ME up there with the people who lived for band. LOL

I dated the cheerleading captain for 3 years, for some reason she liked me back. Who knows why, she was F I N E fine. I guess she would say I was nice to her, and maybe made her laugh, idk.

I rarely studied, made just soso grades. When I took the ACT to go to college, I scored really high, higher than the smart kids who were taking the SAT's and took the ACT for practice. My teachers were like wtf? I told them that I guessed well. :-)

One might say, "A good time was had by all" would sum it up.....

Cool thread.

I hung with the drug crowd in HS. My best friends brother was the local GHB cook when it was super popular. My other good friend was the XTC man but that was a little after HS. I always made good grades even though I never really applied myself. I would leave everyday after 2nd period my junior year and we would go get high and drink beer. The cops came to my house twice and the second time was to arrest my parents for my truancy. Luckily they were not home. That day my parents unenrolled me and I was officially a high school drop out. I had my GED before the class ahead of me walked that year, so I guess in all reality I graduated a year early lol. I am still close with a few of my HS buddies although none of them drug anymore. It is funny to me that the same guy who drove his truck into a culvert huffing a duster leaving a Walmart parking lot is now a successful business owner and father. Times do change.

I've been conversing with classmates from 1982. It's depressing to hear how many people are dead already.

I want to know what you all were like in school. Do you think besides maturity is obviously different that you have changed much? Were you popular? Loner? Nerd? Jock?

I was actively into many sports and I guess you could say I was in a popular crowd. I was nominated for Homecoming and Prom Queen. I had a serious boyfriend all 4 years, but still did a lot with my friends too. I was a clown and as you can see that never changed. I am always sarcastic and like to have fun. I was always told by my teachers to stop talking. I would crack jokes outloud to one teacher that I really hated and the class would giggle. I still had my head on straight and got good grades though. I just don't like being so serious all the time.

NEXT!
I was really shy and felt really awkward around people I didnt know. I had no confidence in myself whatsoever. I was immature and sarcastic and a little bit obnoxious but my friends thought i was funny. I was a bit of a nerd and hung out with nerdy types - some smart nerds in honors classes (like myself) and some not so smart nerds. Academically I was an underachiever to the Nth degree. I was intellectually lazy (shocker!) and only did well in subjects that came natural with little effort (Math, science, and Spanish). I did not read any assigned homework or any books at all in High School. As a result my grades in Social Studies and English were terrible (C's and D's) but I got A's in everything else. I was in the Band for the first 3 yrs of HS and we had a lot of fun going to Marching Band competitions. I also played Softball for the first 2 yrs of HS. That's about it.

Everyone thought I was really stuck up in high school, but the truth was, I was just REALLY REALLY shy....... I was well liked by everybody, but I wouldnt consider myself popular.......Not like teen movie popular. The only recreational substance I had was ETOH, and the same is true today. 3 season a year athlete -- Football (cpt.), Basketball (cpt.), and Track (shot and discus, no runnin for this fool!). NHS, NYLF-med., and all that other academic crap.

Oh yeah, and I had my own car and drove to school when I was 14.....

I went to a huge high school, I was generally disliked. I had quite a different attitude and perspective on school as most of the other honors kids I was around. I actually wanted to learn. I was also a year round athlete, but I did not excel in any particular sport. I was too mature for high school. I couldn't wait to get the fxck out of there. My best memories are definitely all the cross country and swimming meets

And practices. I love when school would end and practice would begin. My pleasures came from working hard. I achieved excellent grades and a few college credits.
