ok, give me an idea here...

what should i tip my mail carrier?

garbage men?

my nephew's school bus driver?

I think i should give you a tip

seriously, i can't tip the paperboy in beer again.

and i don't want to give the schoolbus driver vodka. thats just wrong.

$20 each?

$20 -$40 or $50, depending on how often they come around and how good their service is.

Place the cash (no gift certificates) in a "Thank you" card and write "Thank you for a professional and courteous service." Give it to them on the SECOND to last day before Christmas, as to not miss them if they don't show for some reason on the scheduled day before.

While handing it to them, smile lovingly and do not take it back if they reject the gift. Insist on it for the health of their family and illegitimate children. God bless us all.

thank you for the first helpful response. you should be a mod.

There is too much tipping everywhere.

What happened to the days people did thier jobs for a paycheck?

Now it's freaking tip jars everywhere. Even in TCBY....give me a break. Everybody wants a handout.

p.s. Send me a Christmas card with money in it. I love getting those. Thanx!

I would tip them nothing. They don't make a living off of tips and it is not expected. They get paid to do their job and that should be enough.

I agree. It's also a sensitive issue. These people must take their jobs seriously. They're not Pizza delivery boys, they're people who work for our local and federal governments who sometimes have better benefits than we do. It may be an insult to tip them.

Having said that, in this day and age, we (or I) have a hard time believing all the "Good morning" "How may I help you in the best possible way?" or "We're here for you." comments forced upon workers to tell customers. So, if i do feel thankful of something, I want to say it in ways other than a "Thanks" because like I said, it does'nt hold water anymore because of the abuse of it and other phrases. Maybe $20 or $40 would send the message that I truly am thankful for the service I received.

Nothing. They make way more than minimum wage. here we have two class of minimum wage: with or without tip. The first category makes like a buck less per hour. These are the only people to get tip from me (barman, servers, ...).

How much do you tip the carhops at Sonic Drive-In? I mean, they don't even take orders, they just bring them to you.

I give them a dollar and the change if I have that.

Yea...the only reason is that my wife has taught most of them and they are either in high school now or just graduated and in college.

I just wonder if they get the same sucko below-minimum-wage pay that waitresses and bartenders get, where tips are expected to make up the difference?

Screw that, give em an empty Xmas card and watch the disapointment on their face when they open it.

thats what i think. I can't imagine the paperboy/man makes a good living.

I don't like tipping servers. I feel they make more money then I do, which is sad for holding a tray and filling my drink. FRIDAYS and Chillies servers make 15.00+ an hour (with others tipping). That is just way to much.....

Well i am glad those jobs are there cause give people a chance to be able to work part time. while they are going to school. U may think damn they are making more an hr than I do. but maybe they are only working 20hrs a week.

Everyone is so grouchy. . If you dont have money to give don't. but if you do and are willing to do it and it makes you feel good I am sure the people would love to get a tip. than enjoy.

I think they get minimum wage or a little higher. I don't think they expect tips and if they get one that is just a bonus.
