1 serving Total Lean, 1 cup of oatmeal and a protein bar or shake 30 minutes before. I wouldn't eat a lot of fruit, it will spike your insulin levels quickly, then might leave you feeling slugish half way through your workout, eat the fruit after your workout instead =]
I usually have to eat something before I workout. I also disagree with not eating carbs before workout.. Carbs spike your insulin levels...
I usually don't workout until I've had at least two good meals already. . and I eat a least 6x a day..
I usually eat something about a half hour before I get in the car to drive to the gym... takes me 20 minutes to get there.... Also, I always have a premixed protein shake with me in the gym.... Sometimes if I get hungry while working out I'll slam it.. but usually wait until done...
I actually like to eat a little while working out sometimes. I've found that I can workout harder and longer.. Just don't ever eat much. want blood in your muscles not gut...
PP and Calories 30 - 60 min before.
PP and Gainer right away after.
I think raisins are very good to eat just before training (personally), fruit is ALWAYS good.
I think everyone is quite different...while some just slam a protein shake beforehand and have good results, i have to eat solid food...usually something light like tuna or chicken breast, and rice or oatmeal for carbs...then i have to workout within an hour of that or else i may not feel strong throughout my routine...
well what I did today before I ran 6 miles for my bball team out on the track and then hit the weights was drink this 100% squized orange juice with some protein which I found at safeway and also an apple, this was something great no matter what I ate in the past be it oatmeal or wahtver I have never felt as good as this.. maybe its just that Im finally gettin in shape but I dont know..
orange juice had some protein in it.... a lot of potasium, and 32grams of carbs 24 being sugar or something similar like that.
As Cortisol levels increase during excersize more and more protein becomes used for glucose and less and less glycogen. For protein to be used though it has to be stripped of its amino acids making it worthless as a protein. I would say eat carbs 1-2 hours pre workout so that glycogen levels are raised and u save urself some protein for AFTER the workout. I mean really why eat a ton of protein if ur just gonna burn it as glucose when u can more effectivly use uhh i dunno glucose? Carbs dont "spike your inuslin every time u eat them" If you eat oats whole grains fiber it wont spike but it will actually stay steady and realease the carbs slowly allowing u to save glycogen for workout out and then allowing u to save protein for building more muscle. In this way carbs are very anabolic.
