What temp do you set the thermostat when you go to sleep?

In the winter, if you lay off the heat and only use enough covers to keep it bearable, you'll burn cals while sleeping to keep warm.

Of course, in the summer you may sweat off cals while sleeping if it's very hot.

I really think HVAC has a lot to do with our obesity problem.

Who asked the clinician?

There is a correlation between the two.

I think stuffing ones face with burger king and soda all day has a much higher correlation that missing out on a couple hundred calories burned. Get a double whopper with a large fry and large coke, and it easily sets you back over 1500 calories. And if you werent aware, people who eat double whoppers dont eat one meal a day.

Where do you intend to take this argument, Chris? The original statement was that heating and a/c have a link to obesity. In which one could make the inference that it contributes to sedentary lifestyles.

I agree that diet has a bigger direct correlation than HVAC. But people can eat whatever they want if they are burning sufficient calories.

The people who do eat like that dont tend to move around enough to burn sufficient calories. Blaming HVAC for society's obesity problems is like blaming testicular cancer on smoking weed. Yes, there's a good correlation but it's like #17 on the list of things that are associated with test. ca.

My point is that if these people did what he suggested by optimizing the body's ability to regulate temperature in order to burn more calories and continued to eat fast food and lead a sedentary lifestyle, they would STILL have a caloric surplus at the end of the day, and still get fat.
