if you worked with pitbulls for any amount of time you would not of said what you did...pit owners know whats up but everyone battles for there beliefs whether it be right or wrong...just like were on a steroid board we will preach about all the goods when really deep down we know its not the best idea and risky

But I did work with pits for a good amount of time and I am saying what I'm saying. Deal with it.

I never said pits weren't aggressive, but the right owner can deal with it and train the dog to behave against it.

Z - sorry to get preachy...Sarcasm is often lost on the internet, and there are plenty of people out there who would be serious, and proud to have a mean dog.

I don't own a pit bull and never have, and I defend the breed too. They are the breed of choice for thugs, so they get a bad reputation (combined with the amount of damage they can do with those muscular jaws). In the past dobies, rotties, etc have all had the same stigma. News outlets over report pit bite incidents and under report others.

Unrelated but I was at a festival the other day and a teenage girl was selling pit bull puppies (she said only to families) and they were just about the cutest thing I had ever seen....maybe a shade over eight weeks and all smushy face and round bellies. Ohmygodcuteness.

Any recommendation on training? Any good DVDs or book that I can watch/read?

Something along the lines of a guard dog. Growl on command. Etc.

I grew up around Shepherds. They are very smart but they have a strong tendency to bond intensely to the Alpha personality in the house. You don't NEED to teach them to be guard dogs, you need to properly educate them and give them discipline, they guard the property instinctively. But they need a LOT of exercise, they are an intelligent, high energy working breed (operative word here being HERD). And genetic defects are rampant in dogs you find in America.

Have you ever owned a dog or will this be your first one? If you don't have a decent amount of experience with dogs you'd do better attending obedience classes with your first puppy over a DVD. You need to learn how to make the dog sit, stay, and walk with manners before you graduate to other things.
