What keeps you motivated?

I seem to slip at times and get myself off track. I was wondering what keeps you motivated and what do you find helps you get back on track when you have fallen off track????

The numbers. I look at the world record women's #'s, then I picture myself doing slightly more...then it's only a matter of minutes before I'm ready to hit the iron.

For me it is a habit. I don't ever fall skip workouts, I do have planned time offs. I personally get a lot of pleasure from my lifting. I think it helps if you really enjoy whatever activity it is you participate in.

The only limits we have are those we choose--valerie

I've been working out for several years, but in the last 7 months I've changed my workouts to be focused on lifting instead of cardio (and more focused on free weights and heavier weight goals). I always did a full body workout with cardio, it was just more machine based and I wasn't challenging myself... just going through the motions. A few months ago I went through a serious break-up and working out became my anger management and my sleeping pill. So, I started going to the gym 4-5x per week instead of 2-3. I decreased cardio and increased lifting. Now I love it! It's no longer anger managment or a sleeping pill, but just fun. I look better than I ever have. That's my motivation... looking great and feeling good. Tension headaches that were frequent are rare now. I also started keeping a journal, which has helped a lot!

Take record - make a journal

Track what you do

How you feel physically

Your gains and loses - and how you feel about them (not how you feel physically)

Take a lot of photos and compare over time - nothing gives you greater motivation that a visual result.

Make a series of small goals for yourself - a mini competition against yourself and your past goals.

Talk to people about their goals and accomplishments - sometimes others can be inspiring.

Also, think about it as a scrapbook and feel free to tear up magazines or write things down that you feel inspired about.

Sorry a bit off topic, but velvett, you have an absolutely beautiful stomach.

every time I go in public and take a look around....all the people who abuse their bodies in one way or another.....it shows in their physiques, faces, skin, hair, etc....we as BB are constantly looked at and admired to some degree- not all- but most of the time- we stand out- when you have a body and poise and carry yourself well, it automatically demands respect- because people know the dedication and discipline it takes to acheive that body we walk around with....looking like the norm- does not interest me at all- that keeps me motivated...once you have been" HERE" there is no going back to being average, or normal run-of the -mill.....

Stay the course and you will get them!

Beating genetics to a certain extent -- losing 40 lbs

I am fascinated how lifting changes my body & improves it. Plus now that I'm getting a handle on the diet thing I love watching my body change.

Plus I love that I can lift as heavy as or heavier than some of the guys at my gym!! :)

Very true.

I don't fall off track except for the occasional diet slip-ups, and if I mess up for a meal or two, I get right back on track. The only times I've failed at getting into the gym regularly in the past year was due to illness/surgery. It's a fun challenge so it's not a chore. It's a part of my daily life that I have control over...I choose to do it, it's not something that I have to do for anyone else but me. I do it with my husband, so it's another aspect of our marriage that brings us closer and the time we spend together doing it is so enjoyable...encouraging each other...pushing eachother...congradulating eachother. Plus I look at how much better I feel when I'm training and eating right...I never want to feel like I did before.

I think my motivation is actually seeing the amazing progress I've made over a 7 months. I've lost a great deal of body fat and changed the shape of my body dramatically. I've gone from a size 18 to a size 12. It's amazing and feels great. For once in my lifetime, I feel like a woman who is sexy and beautiful. (I'm told this often, you see! LOL) Sex is better, life is better, shopping for clothing is better. Seeing a trend? Everything is better. I'd be crazy to stop training.

My short term goal is cutting like hell -- my mom in law wants me to go to vegas, and hasnt seen me since I started training a year ago, and has always competed with me...so I just want to look kick-ass for vegas. After that, it's rock-climbing, baby!

Oh, and when I say compete, I dont mean fitness-wise; I mean competing with me over my husband, who's prettier, thinner, smarter, blah blah blah. The shit gets old. If she starts it up in Vegas I'll just pile-drive the beeyatch!
