so someone who knows how to enjoy and appreciate their life, and does so if possible

exactly, the first part of his sentence is important to put it in context. The losers are the only ones concerned about doing 'their best'

My definition is different than traditional societies, but has some similarities. First, they are aware of themselves, they have developed an active ability to be attuned to the present moment. Attention leads to focus. Focus develops only quality. Whatever they choose to pursue will be backed with the force of strong intent. They understand their own nature and are aware of their unique pattern of perception, thoughts, and behaviors. They are a leader, and bring hope to others by the example they set. By getting past themselves and conquering their own tendencies, they embody the true definition of power. All, the other stuff, like kindness, patience, tolerance, generosity, all comes with the person being as conscious or present as they can through self awareness.
