I'm used to physical jobs working outdoors as I've been a heavy equipment operator/skilled labor(did not sit on my ass 24/7, maybe 50% of the time, lots of hard work) for the past 9 years until the economy took a shit.
About 6 months ago I managed to get hired to a sawmill...
The woman that interviewed me was fucking pro. Had me sold on the benefits and the pension etc. Her schtick about wanting leaders was fucking classic. I beat out about 30 other applicants only to be thrown on the green chain and forgot about. On the green chain you pull lumber off a bigass moving conveyor and they pretty much run it as fast as possible without actually killing you.
I shit you not. Imagine pulling 20ft long 2x4's, two at a time because the guy in front of you on the line has to preset them because they come so tightly packed and you have to load them on the ground which is about 2 feet below where you are standing and they have to be loaded pretty damn accurately at blinding speed.
Now realize you have to work at the limits of your physical ability to stack them decent at warp speed non-stop for 2.5 hours straight. Then you take a 15 minute break, move up 1 section on the conveyor and proceed to absolutely bust your ass again for the next 2.5 hours presetting for the guy in your previous spot while trying to stack 3 different grades/sizes of lumber yourself. 4-10 hour shifts a week of this shit. 5am start time outside. At least it was covered, but you were either working in 20-30degree weather praying you didn't work up a sweat or be freezing your ass off, or working in 100+ heat.
I managed to do this for 1 month before quitting. I lost 10lbs all the while eating +5000 calories a day easily. Every other guy was an ex-con and every other guy had a fucked up wrist, shoulder or back.
I'm not saying this is the worst job ever, but for sheer physical toll on your body it has to rank in the top 10 most grueling jobs ever...
