What is the protocol for this?

A girlfriend died this week. It was expected, still it's heartbreaking. I sent here husband (also a friend) a sympathy card. Last night I'm finishing up xmas cards and their name came up. Do I send him a xmas card this year? What is the protocol? I haven't a clue.

Definitely send him a Christmas card. Holidays are traditionally periods not only of joy, but of introspection...He will need extra cheers this year.
