Just got my body fat tested I'm at 6.5%, But I still feel like I could lose a little fat in my lowback/love handle area. LOL that might just be me being obsessive, but maybe it's also I need to just build the muscle in that area as well. What do you guys feel is the ideal Bodyfat

6.5 is actually very low. Too much lower on a full time basis would not be healthy. You you still have handles being that lean, you always will. If can afford it, go for lipo. The handles are relatively simple and the laser lipo they have today is virtually painless.

age is a factor also.

when you are in your late teens early 20's and staying active its much easier to be in the single digits. once you get 30 and over it becomes more of a challenge cause most of us sit on our asses for our jobs in front of a computer in todays society.

when i was a runner i was 6-7% bf. i only worked out in the gym 2X per week and it was light workouts.. my muscle was very lean. i ran 4-5X per week and my diet was so strict to a tee.

now I am 14% as a lifter and my blood pressure is 125/75. i would say anything over 17% you really should re-evaluate what you are doing unless you only care about strength in the gym. i wont let myself get over 15% period.

Mine's 5.7 (immersion test by dr. a couple months ago), and I still have a deposit of fat on my lower back above butt... I think that's the body's last reserve. I wouldn't want to go any lower than I am, as if I get sick and go without eating for a few days, it could might cause me to be malnourished more than if I had a little fat to fall back on.

To answer the OP's question, I don't think there's a straight answer, but there are various tables based on age, health, ethnicity, and lifestyle.

Just to be clear; 5.7 is very very low, and very few people believe me (until I show pics of abs with even the smallest veins showing, and individual muscle fibers visible on my delts).

I would like to get down to 10-15%. But I don't have the body type for it. For me to get under 20% I have to be really strict diet and run 5 miles/day 5 days/week.

wow... at 6.5% bf, i would think that's competition standards. I'm pretty happy at 10 - 12%, I still can push and lift heavy in the gym. Previously when i dropped below 8%, all my lifting suffered. Didn't really like that..

Ugh, I'm getting too fat again! Just passed the 12% range I think. Time to buckle down. Damned igf-1 hunger.... and my lack of discipline. :)

That is most likely a false reading.

Post up the rest of your stats; training, diet, cycle history, etc...

where do you go to get a good bodyfat reading. Do you do it youself?

The only true readings, as far as I believe, are the immersion test. That's a method where the computer combines your height and weight, with other date, and it measures how much volume of water you displace when you get in a tub. There are other electronic measurements which are more accurate than the home ones, but those can be off by a lot, depending on how thick the skin is on your feet & hands, and if you have sweaty feet/hands.

The Cooper Clinic in Dallas is the best place, and I've had mine done with the immersion and also the electronic method. The ones you hold in your hands, or the bathroom scales with the metal foot contacts, are about as accurate as a cheap Chinese toy wrist watch after it's been in a fire.

Lousiana! I thought you left us bro...

The most accurate measure is immersion testing, as people have already written about here.

The second most accurate are medical bioelectrical impedance scales, such as those manufactured by Tanita.

This is what I was taught by one of my nutrition professors. She claims that for research purposes they use the immersion testing; For regular tests she recommends bioelectrical impedance.

According to my professor, it's not only about the absolute number, but about being able to graph change accurately.
