I dont mind going out and buying a program for $50 at Best Buy as long as I can have the peace of mind its the best there is. I'm tired of all this swithcing between EF, cyber-rights, hotmail.

Please use Elite mail -- it's free or $19 for more storage. Just click the link at the top of the page. I do not know about cyber-rights, but I do know hotmail is not secure. With Elite mail, you also are supporting the site!

I use Eudora for my other accounts. It has all the filters, message transfers, display, relpy and personality options.

Is there any way a secure program could have all the features of Eudora 5.1 or Outlook Express?

The best secure email system is hands down PGP. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know shit about cryptography, or privacy in general. The fact is that PGP/RSA public key crypto has been brutally tested by the open crypto community, and its damned good. And you can get PGP software for your regular email program (outlook express, Eudora, etc.) for free.

Anytime you send plaintext over the net... like at these "hushmail" systems... you are fucked. You are trusting the provider, and not the crypto system.

If you wanna do encrypted email... get yourself a pop/imap email account, eudora/outlook, and PGP... then make a public key and distribute it... and guard your private key like you would your kid.

you have the option of using PGP as well as thier closed system. go to www.zonealarm.com and download an excellent firewall----run through a good proxy and if you want the safest encryption...

4096bit PGP key with a strong password and encourage those you correspond with to use the same. the prog is free and enables you to wipe the slack space on your harddrive......

Sending anonymous email is possible through remailers... but recieving it is, as far as I know, relies on you ping ponging through proxies, or requires that you trust your host.

Realistically, if you use a POP account registered through a web proxy (works at yahoo)... and bounce your email through a proxy, encrypted in PGP... you're pretty good. Better than you are at hushmail, etc.

If I REALLY wanted to be anonymous and privacy was of the utmost concern, I would:

Go to an internet cafe. Create a yahoo POP account through a web proxy. Through a secure anonymous remailer, send my public key to the guy I need to communicate with, and request his public key be sent to the yahoo address. Then both sides encrypt all emails that are going to be sent, and each time you send the guy mail, you tell him a new address to reply to. And each time you access these new accounts only once to get his reply. You use a new email provider, through a new proxy, from somewhere other than home.

That would be very very hard to track. You could probably threaten a head of state and be okay there... for the love of god don't get any ideas. But if you want anonymity and security, there it is.

What is the relevence of it being "easy to hack", if you're only gonna use it once? In any other usage... since hotmail doens't do pop mail... it is a completely inappropriate choice for secure communications.
