What is the best martial art to take strictly too

yah I think Japanese JJ still exists so I dont know what you mean to ask what happend to it
but I don't know you can say that a high degree blackbelt in karate could 'easily' defeat a Muay Thai fighter (of similar experinece)
I personally am interested in trying Kyokushinkai Karate (sp)

What I mean is why do all the UFC and most Pride Fighters focus on BJJ instead of Japanese JJ. I never hear of it any more but I know it used to be much better than BJJ in a one on one fight. My guess is BJJ evolved more or it's just better in a MMA competition while maybe Japanese JJ is better in a just-grappling competition. Kyokushinkai Karate is actually a real good martial art to get involved with because of its circular movements and more versatile forms unlike the linear forms of other styles of Karate. However I wouldn't know how a practitioner of Kyokushinkai would fare against other styles in competition.

one word: marketing

gracies did this better then anyone in martial arts history.

thats why once mma gets bigger and bigger where someone studies, meaning style wise, will become less relevant and more focus will shift towards how the person trains.

Hmmm that's an interesting point. A lot of people forget about Kazushi Sakuraba who defeated almost all of the Gracies not long ago. However when I searched what style he used it just says Japanese wrestling so I assume that is close to Japanese JJ. So maybe Japanese JJ is BJJ's weakness but it doesn't do well against other styles like BJJ does. But I agree it is basically on how the person trains and Kazushi Sakuraba might have just been in better condition than the Gracies he fought.
