What is the best martial art to take strictly too

Enhance your fighting abilities? Like how actual street fights occur and the best martial art to take to learn how to fight, which will 99% of the time end on the ground in a wrestling match.

A buddy wants to take karate which is pretty lame in my opinion, waste of time when it comes down to it. I told him to take something like judo or Jiu-jitsu because of the grappling, what do you think?

Being a systema practitioner I'm biased towards that because as far as I'm aware it's one of the only arts that addresses

-multiple opponents
-extensive knife use
-"dirty" fighting techniques
-while looking pretty

why are you looking for one art... Street application is one of the reasons MMA houses have gotten so popular.... Just wondering...

i would also say from what ive seen from systema and krav maga that they are two of the best styles to take for self defense..

you should look at what is offered in your area and post up the schools and instructors names if possible

see how the class is run and that will help you decide as well..

good luck

I've heard good things about Krav Maga. Then again, I've yet to set foot inside a martial arts school, so don't take what I say as gospel.

Boxing! if you can knock out a man with 1 left hook why would the fight need to go to the ground?

lmfao,id be willing to say 90% of street fights goto the ground, and landing that one blow to end it wont be easy. the point of learning to defend yourself is to be ready for any situation because every situation is different

yeh so say the magazines and ads for grappling videos. Don't get me wrong its good to know how to grapple, i also do BJJ and wrestling, but if thats all you've got in a street fight, be prepared to get stomped/smashed while on the ground. Street fights are almost never one on one, last year i was in maby 7 street fights i only grappled in 1 and i think only 3 or so were one on one.

I know a guy whos all grappling and in a 5 on 5 street fight whlie he was on the groud wrestling with 1 guy another guy smashed his OWN beer bottle that he was drinking a minute before on his face. Now he wouldn't have needed those stiches if he had KO'd the guy early on, a good boxer can KO a normal untrained punk in a heart beat.

I've seen many fights even 3 on 1 and 2 on 1's get finished in a matter of second with a few good punches, wouldn't you rather finish the fight like that?

"90% of street fights goto the ground"
that is only true for untrained dickheads who don't know how to use their fists and throw punches properly the fight doesn't need to go to the ground if you can finish it while standing.

It is good to know some grappling especially defending takedowns like sprawling to defend a double leg and choke holds, and in a strictly one on one situation BJJ has been proven to be the most effective (Royce in the first UFCs), as long as you don't get KOd first.

its exactly the fact the you cant just be a grappler or stand up that krav or systema are the most practical, unless your a well rounded fighter you can be hurt very easily
