What is love?

KillahBee said:
LMAO @ "We probably have"! No, I definitely have it in me to love, but a) it isn't the type of love that "women" my age expect or are used to and b) I really haven't had the need to offer it for a long time now. Too much drama and bullshit that just doesn't fit into my lifestyle.

But do you feel you'll know it when it's time to go full force with it? It'll just happen?

Once your child falls asleep in your arms, and you sit quietly holding them for what could have been hours, or a minute, or a second, your heart strains your ribs hoping they will grow to know this exact feeling - while you hope that they will never change and that this minute will last forever.

Listening to them breath. Scanning over the face with your eyes, afraid that if you move- or stir- or look away - that you will lose this moment. That in that one blink of an eye everthing makes sense and at the same time the mystery of it all overwhelms you - how could you, in the magnitude of your insignifigance - have had anything to do with something so perfect, so beautiful, so fragile, so little.

How could this little person love me.

Love is a lot of things. It's a feeling, an emotion, a sensation, and a lot more. And yes, it's a choice. You can choose to allow love in or you can put up walls and close it out. I've done both. Both choices can be the right thing to do, depending on the situation and the person.

After a lot of thought, I've come to one simple conclusion concerning it...to each his own.

Love is just an old lie created to keep people from jumping out of windows
I don't have a clue myself........

Love, my love I gave it all
Thought I saw the light
When I heard you call
Life that we both could share
Has deserted me
Left me in despair

Looked at in evolutionary terms:

Single celled organisms think "Metabolize, Survive, Reproduce"
Bats probably think "Eat flies, Stay in dark areas, Mate"
Monkeys walk around saying "I gotta fuckin' eat, survive, fuck!"

Humans ask on message boards, "what is love?" and people respond with complex social ideas and ideals. It's obvious that, to some extent, "love" is a little white lie some of us tell ourselves to save us from the beast within who wants to eat, survive, fuck, and perhaps kill. One might say that love is the super-ego, imposed during childhood, which replaces basic desires with object cathexi. Or, viewed from a more evolutionary perspective, love is a white lie which is partially biologically innate, and partially socially imposed.

I am of the amateur opinion that it is mostly socially imposed (not in a biologically innate way), and if we didn't live in such a complex society we would not need such a complex concept of "love". Life might be a whole lot more satisfying for some people.

Read my signature from the bible.

Love is a choice. Such as choosing to love someone no matter what they have done to you. Whether the perceived injustice is real or imagined.

Very few if any of us can have that kind of love. Especially when concerning a spouse. I found that out this weekend. I do not have what it takes. I would like to, but reality is, I don't.

...You've hit on something....in the bible God said simply..."Love me..."

it wasn't a request but rather a commandment...."Love me"
love is not accidental...anyone who has been in a relationship for any length of time must admit that you have to "will" yourself to love someone...you must make up you mind...I am going to love this person...no matter....

Love is not stingy or jealous....

btw very well said Chefwide.....

it is every other emotion rolled up into one. and stay the hell away from it if at all possible especially with women.
