...why does a group / person / country, in its quest for "greatness", have the need to put down others?

Take AR vs EF. Take Canada vs US. Take Erz vs everyone else on the fucking planet. What gives?

Why can't we all get along? Why are all YOU SHITS like that?

These are just my opinions....of course.

There are different many different 'Quests for Greatness'

There's always the competitive quest such as Lance Armstrong's personal quest over cancer and comeback toward another Tour De France win. Or any group such as a sports team, etc. over another toward a win. Even a country would want to have a better financial status, military power, political saavy...I think there is an inate drive in most people to enjoy competition in most instances.

When it becomes nasty and hurtful IMO is when people try to hurt another in their own selfish quest to feel better about themselves. We could call these people/groups/countries bullies. Whether emotional or physical, there are many out there waiting for an opportunity to impose their will in the hope of some sick satisfaction from making another feel 'less' in any way. And then there is hypocrisy...where one may make another feel less than, but in turn they themselves are guilty of the very thing used in their attack, but they will not own up to it. I hope I never make anyone feel less than for any reason, it such a terrible hurt.

This is the credited response.

I appreciate the answer.

I get the whole "quest" for greatness. I don't get the putting down part. Fun is fun, but there is always a line. What ever happened to respectfully agree to disagree? Why all the name calling?

It just seems to me that this is what people are looking for nowadays. On some level, I would almost akin it to bloodlust. Push a person down too far and if they don't have the proper social / economic / emotional support structure in place; then people will start to do drastic things.

I'm just waiting for the day when someone takes the whole conquest too far and gives those on top what they consider their just rewards. A sort of comeuppance, if you win. Scandals.

Yes, its really sad to see those without too many friends, not a lot of money, or support in all types to be beaten down by another. Its almost as if kicking a three legged dog because he has not four legs is his just punishment. Battered people do drastic things sometimes...such as someone very close to me pushed to the point of self destruction, taking their own life or attempting to as a cry for help.

Absolutely horrific.

I'm not sure if I would call it horrific. I would think that 'expected' would be a more appropriate response.

I like the three legged dog analogy. Nice touch.

I'm waiting for the 'dog' to bite the master in some cases.
