I actually find the brotherhood question quite interesting. For years, I was stuck on machine workouts by myself. I knew how to use the machines, but I knew the real improvment came from the people in the freeweight area. But in most gyms, the is an invisible mental wall that seperates the two. I don't know if it was my own emotions being uncomfortable with using suck small weights in the freeweight area or the hertosexist attuide within the freeweight area, but for many years, I was emotionally uncomfortable being in the freeweight area. Not that I've gotton over myself, i'll never look back, but those first few weeks in the freeweight area were very uncomfortable for me. I wish more bodybuilding books and guids would go into this subject - the gym sees a new member and they put them right on a machine cycle ignoring the freeweight area. I would have never made the gains that I have if I haden't screwed up my courage and crossed that line one day. And it's a very friendly area to be in once you have some time there - when was the last time someone let you cut in for a set on a machine. I could do a whole thread about this but I think this is a serious matter. I welcome your comments. Thanks! Alan Chiras.
