I get this all the time, but I'm a pretty smooth guy so I've never had a problem handling this situation.
Usually what I do is, immediately upon being smiled at by this chick, I do an immediate and dramatic 180 degree turn of my neck to see if there's anyone behind me she might be smiling at(I know there's no one there, this is just for effect). Then I'll turn back around and have my jaw hanging open, at which point I'll point a finger at myself and mouth the words, "you really mean me?" at her. Regardless of whether or not she turns away, I pump my fist usually 2-3 times and nod my head repeatedly followed by a "fuck yeah." Then I'll say to the person closest to me, "did you see that shit?" You just gotta be smooth with the chicks, Frack. It's not hard. No need to be contemptuous of them for whatever their motives may be...just love them.

When I get/give a smile sometimes it's usually to be nice.

However sometimes it's to show you think the other person is attractive. I still check girls out even if they are with their BF. Smiling is kinda the same thing in some cases.

It's something relatively foriegn to most people, it;s called being polite.

But in your case it translates to a false-positive on your "She wants me" radar. Hubris is a bitch.

Little France, I am aware of the difference between a polite smile just in passing, and the inviting type smile where her eyes get 'that look' and her mouth is slightly open with her tongue peeking out of her teeth.

The other factor is not when I catch her eye and she smiles at me, it's when I catch that she's smiling at me and do a double take ... thanks though LF for your insight, it always makes me desire lobotomy.

Anyway, for god's sake I don't hate girls anymore...it's not a problem of looks as I'm very good looking (puffs out chest) - I just don't have good initiate conversation skills ..

I just think it's a weird thing to do when you're with another guy, but I'm sure guys do it too alot.
