What do YOU deadlift?

PatsFan34

New member
I'm just curious as to what you girls and boys deadlift. I'm not saying I'm Chief Jay Strongbow, I just want to know! I did 375x2, but I know I can hit 405 at least!!!

Spatts, I already know your answer!!!

Usually a barbell, sometimes with plates on it.

Did this today though:

135x6
185x6
225x6
265x3
275x1

*flexes*

Hey man, make sure you video the next time you go for 455. Especially if you do it sumo style.

It'd be killer to see you pull that sumo style.:)

Joker

Well I meant 455lbs conventional, I don't know if I could do that sumo - we will see :)

A PR of 325 today.
It wasn't super hard... will be trying 335 next week.

335 for 10 on Sumo DL last try.... I like to get my ass WAY down low... I do them for form not lifting the weight So I'm sure I could go much higher if I was willing to push my hips or use lower back more

500 x 10 reps
550 x 5 reps
600 x 1 rep
raw, no belt or straps, thank you god for putting me together like a monkey, short legs and long arms.....

Good job everyone, ya'll are some strong mo fo's. But I plan on blowing right past ya'll! Let's keep up the hard core shit!

Gettinlarger, we on the same pace. Let's push each other and go for the gusto...WORD!!!

Needsize, how much do you weigh? Damn dude, that's some fucking weight. I don't know if I'll catch you soon!!!

Hey Needsize that is some impressive shit...come...join the darkside...shed your coat of pro tan and posing trunks...don the all-stars and go-tee...j/k bro

305. My deadlift sucks! I can deadlift just a little more than I bench. Crazy, huh? I've got a long torso, and I can't get the right hip drive - I end up stiff-legging it. Guess I'll keep going with the box squats and good mornings.

Mine is a stiff legged one too - but I still managed over 405lbs :)

You're an animal :) . I guess I just have a weak lower back - when it's heavy I just can't budge it off the ground.

I had the same problem. B-Fold suggested it might be due to weak hams. I hit the pull-throughs hard and over the next few months it became easier and easier to hold my butt down.

CCJ> I thought yours was "supposed" to be conventional when you pulled that 405, (I remember the video you posted.) but your ass came up to fast. (Like mine was also at the time.)

Joker

yes conventional but assed up - so I stiff legged it up the rest of the way :)

That's one thing lots of oly lifting will give ya - a very strong lower back.

Amen to that...

As for how much I deadlift...ask me again on Sunday. Last comp was 550...we'll see how it goes.

That video of needsize lifting 500 or something for reps makes me hurt just watching it.

Ive only done DL's twice. Fell in love with them at first sight though.

225x4.

I'm right there with you guys too...I was thinking of attempting 400 or 405 sometime next week....even though they really aren't part of my routine right now.

Gettinlarger, you do DC right? How do you fit these in? Day/Reps/Sets, etc....?

I've done 355 conventional..off the floor. It was after 4 working sets, so I am hoping/thinking that 405 is quite possible...we'll see next week.

I do DC too and work them in on leg day.

In the DC sticky, he says something about doing a heavy 4rep set, then a 20 rep set. (I almost pass out every time I get done with the 20 rep set)

I do them once every sixth workout.

I weigh 235lbs now but was 217lbs when I hit those lifts

485 raw conventional@181

Actually hope to break 600 by year's end@181-198
Root for me!

Obviously deadlift specialist wannabe. I can only squat about 350 I think, but what the hell, as long as my DL keeps going up:D

I`ve been deadlifting a couple of months now, but never tried maxing. I did 305 3 sets X4-5 reps though.

I tried stiff legged deadlifts and thought there was 235 on the bar and only did 4 reps, and was DAMN I`M GETTING WEAKER. I checked the bar and it was 305 for stiffies. lol

I pulled 235x1 with straps, sumo style (spatts inspired...)

Gonna try for another PR this weekend...

Now you just need to follow her inspiration the rest of the way and lose the straps!

;)

I brought the kid that lives across the street from me into the gym last night. He's 14 and I've been teaching him a bit about what to do. We just switched up his routine to add deads.

He pulled the big 145 lbs for 6 reps. :)

500x1 one year ago with belt only.
recently did 405x4 off a 4 inch box with no belt.
have not done conventional deads in awhile. been training for strongman. may try some after my strongman tourney.

Buy the woman some chalk.

and a different gym membership too then. "my" gym wont allow chalk, even though i work there. brings in the "wrong element" and is too much work for the cleanup staff, or something. either way they are all gay!

I wonder what the "right" element is supposed to be....overweight overpaid self indulgant baby boomers who pay for a year at a time then come in and use the bike for a week only to never be seen again? lol

Try a rosin bag. No mess and is almost as good as chalk. You can get them at any bowling ally or baseball equipment store damn cheap.

yes. or gay guys....

the wrong element scares off the gay guys with money. something about weights clanging, cursing, chalk all over and baggys and fanny packs that is like kryptonite to the "target" market.

plus....then the gym would have to spring for weights without handles on them and an actual real live power rack. ;)

With chalk and a belt, most recent PR: 315x1

This Friday is deads with tires. The last time, I pulled a 295x8; 305x3. I expect to pulling MORE this time.

And remember: chalk is your friend. :)

Thats hilarious. You must belong to my gym (and I dont think I would do any pullthroughs there if that is the case).

Anyway, there is a big sign on the wall at my gym that has some rules.

One of them is no grunting or loud noises as it may be distracting.
(I think I have broken this one a few times on the last rep)

Another is no perfume or other scented body products of the sort because of people that have alergies and asthma.

I havent seen anyone there with chalk, and I doubt they would like it too well.

LOL. I have that one. I'm loud all the time. I don't care.

I am SOOOOO glad I chose to build a home gym rather than get a gym membership. I think that's all there is around here.....

i used to go to a gym like that but i changed to a new place which has a couple of "chalk boxes"...
prior to fucking up my shoulder i had gotten to 285 X 6, stiffies. got back up to 275X 7 last week one month in after 6 months off and looking forward to setting new PR's everyweek very soon...

Trust me, I'd love to toss the straps...but they have allowed me to move my weights up. I use them as a tool, not a crutch...only when I have to (and no, not for every set). I struggled with this before and my ego (along with several others...) prevented me from trying them.

When I am doing reps, my grip really gives out...even if I switch up my grip. I tried using gloves, but my hands are so small that the padding in the gloves made the bar even harder to hold on to due to the thickness.

Needsize recommended that I do grip work...ya'll say chalk (or rosin) and I just want to pull more weight!

I tell you what, I'll pick up a rosin bag this week and give it a shot -- but I'm not going to part with my straps just yet...I have my heart set on 250...:baby2: <---me and my straps!

nonerz, do they have an okie deadlift bar at your gym? Something similar? It's smaller in diameter, therefore easier to hold on to.

445 for moi

power cleans have helped. i think the explosive/ballistic nature of the clean has a positive carryover to maxing on deadlift. of course im a fat slob at 5-10, 200 pds. would love to get 500 at 185. :p

well she got her rosin bag. so we'll see soon. there are a couple diff diameter bars in the gym. the smaller diameter one is knurled with what seems like metal spikes. hehe. it tears my hands and legs UP BAD. but its hard to drop, thats for sure.

So true about power cleans. That and good mornings have helped my dead tremendously!

550 in a meet and 580 in the gym. WAY weaker than that now, probably at 455-480. :(

365 for 20 was the hardest dead set I ever did though - lower back screaming!

I just started deads again, but Ive been doing them with a trap bar instead of the straight bar. Thats just how I learned them back in the day..

How are they comparable to the straight bar dead? I think its about time to start trying those out as well...

I love trap bar deadlifts because you can keep bar closer to their body.

Others like olympic bar deadlifts

TO each their own

Aw man! That's the best kind! You're bitching about knurling...and I pay extra for it. :lmao:
I think the one he's describing is my favorite bar...it's a bit smaller than the others there and it has better threads on it. I break the rules and swap out the bars for that one every chance I get.

********
Yeah, I got my rosin bag at Sport Chalet today...I never used one when I played softball...it's nice and compact, but I'll wait to open it until I get in the gym. Looking forward to testing it out!

Well, looks like I'll hold the record for weakest dead on this thread:

255x6

Nope!

I posted earlier about getting 225x4. Well I had used a 1RM calculator and it said that I could get 250x1, so I tried it last night. I got 255x1, but it was hard as fuck and I could feel the pain in my back. I have had a dull ache in my lower back for about 6 months now. I pretty much SLDLed it up because my back is so freaking weak. Looks like I need to incorporate some GMs. I am pretty sure that my back is my weakest link in DL's and squats now so I need to work on it some more.

BTW bignate. I have a pad that velcro's around the bar to use for squats. I put it around the bar for deads too to protect my shins. It works very nice.

Notice I haven't posted my deadlift at all, Patsfan? I think I get Karma for that. ;)

Yes you do babe, I gotta move some karma around first, but I'll hit you as soon as the site lets me again...OK SUGAR?

karma for spatts? she already has to have a band of butler monkeys to carry all that karma around!

okay so I'm just jealous...

I'd love to have her DL over her karma though! ;)

405 conventional

I now do sumo.

I broke my elbow and had surgery on it Jan 29th and yesterday I did 315X5 X2. I feel like I could get 405 next week. I might try it and have someone take a picture of it and sent it to my doctors and PTs.

paste a note to it like....

"I have load tested the surgically repaired elbow to 405 #"

...and just like real-life karma, I give out a "band of butler monkeys" worth too. :)

I'd love to have her DL over her karma though! ;)

You can have both. :D

Yeah I do the same thing when I dl sumo. I put one of those things on each end of the bar. works like a charm.

only thing I ever use 'em for.

405 for 9

475 for 5

525 for 2

550 for 1

All off the floor, pulled 620 from the knees.....but that hurt my full pull cause I couldnt get my form back after a few weeks of pulling off the racks.

I also have a problem with popping my ribs out in my back when I pull heavy....so that hinders me quite a bit!
