what are your thoughts on hst?

I just started reading about hst, and looks like a really good program from what i can tell. I've been on 5x5 for so long I think i've messed up just about every tendon in my body so i'm taking a month off and doing rotator cuff rehab and lots of low weight compound movements (practicing form). Then I was thinking about trying out hst. Have you guys had good results with hst? any complaints?

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HST. I have nothing but good things to say about this program. I have been training for about 8yrs now and I must say this is the most success I have ever had with any program. It is kinda strange that it is geared towards hypertrophy, because I have made the best strength gains ever on the program. I was a 5x5er before HST and I thought that was a great program (and I may go back to it in the future) but as of now HST is exactly what I was looking for and it is yielding results far better then I expected. I really think you should look into it. Although I'm no expert on it (leave that to casualbb) feel free to pm me about it or check out the HST thread in the training sticky.

Definitely read up as much as you can! HST is "true" in the sense that it's based entirely upon how growth has been observed to occur. Understanding what makes HST work allows you to simultaneously understand what makes any program effective (or ineffective) for growth. Many knowledgeable HST-ers go on to construct VERY effective custom routines incorporating HST principles.

I enjoyed HST a great deal. The growth was great and there's something about the program, that just makes it enjoyable.
I'm working on some strength stuff now, but I'm about to start up another HST cycle. I definately recommend it.

Like Casual said, once you know the scientific principles the program is based on, you can make little tweaks to the program to make it your own.

I'm on it now, started my 15RM cycle 5 days ago. I havent noticed any other women posting on EF who have tried it so I started an "HST Journal" thread in the women's forum. My initial measurements and strength levels are there plus my progress and thoughts on the program as I go through it.

I'll also throw in my endosement - I like it a lot. I'm doing a 5x5 again currently, but I'll probably do HST again after Christmas.

I've gotten bigger and stronger using HST than I have with any other program. It's also the only program where I never seem to have nagging injuries and enjoy every single workout.

I also enjoy HST. I have made some good size gains in the past 5 weeks and have lost a lot of fat. The high frequency training is great for fat loss IMO and based on studies that I have read. I am now into my first weeks of 5's and I am really looking foward to hitting some heavy weights again.

I'll have to check out your journal. I'm trying to decide what to do after this 5x5 program. I think I'll be changing my program for the new year.

That's cool. That's exactly what I'm doing too!

I did HST when working on my cardio, trying to keep the muscle and strength that I had earned. After improving my cardio a ton, all the lifts that I did on HST stayed or improved in weight. And, as casual said, understanding the HST principles will help you create your own effective routines.
