What are the best weight training exercises for MMA?

I've broken my nose 3 times...I don't know how that's possible, but it happened....I've had some pretty tough fights...

Sounds like you're a well-rounded warrior...don't get lazy bro...

From a fighter, that's not entirely correct. You need strong shoulders, traps, arms, a good strong torso, and a strong neck.

you want to be strong, not bulky......shoulders,traps and torso will be built up from everday rolling......bjj and stand up. Your not going to punch any harder with bigger arms from lifting weights....

Tyson?

LOL....so if I had excellent hips and straw arms I could knock Tyson out?!

Gimme a break....Power bunches come from good form (putting your hips in it) AND more importantly strong arms and shoulders.

Well-developed fighters, in terms of muscle size and strength have an immediate advantage over weaker ones....

agree that form is critical for punching power. Rotation increases speed and puts more mass behind the strike. In stand up, roation increases punching power. In ground and pound, you are driving down with a lot of gravity and weight... less rotation... but some, especially with a nice elbow.

Force is mass times velocity so moving a small mass very fast may strike hard ( ever been hit 10 times real fast by a little kenpo or kung fu guy but he does no real damage then you put his lights out with one big punch? If you don't block and defend though that little guy can hit a pressure point and get the best of you.) but a large mass ( big hands and arms) moving fast strikes harder. A puncher with big strong arms and shoulders can create some power ( think torque vs horsepower through gearing) like pushing you back hard but when you rotate to really move your hand or foot fast while striking AND put your body weight behind it by driving off your legs then you can really hit hard. Some people are gifted at doing it, some can learn it easily, and some struggle their whole lives to get better ( like me). Not a perfect explanation or analogy but I tried. :-)

how do you know if he hits harder? have you been punched by either of them. Im sure if both were trained how to punch lee would harness more power because he has more mass behind his punches. i would get hit buy a guy that was 140 all day before some guy that was 240.
