Went to see a PT today...

Saw a newbie doc and a senior doc.

They told me that my clavicle is not formed correctly on my right side and it was probably that way since birth. It looks like it is detached from my back/spine too. Senior doc said wresters used to remove their clavicle so other wrestlers could not grab them there. They say the only problem that this might be causing is the soft tissue rubbing on the bone causing inflammation.

They told me that there is nothing I can do to fix that.
X-ray: On my left side you can see a 5 millimeter space between the clavicle and the arm bone on the right side it is almost a whole inch.

The bicep tendon is very tender. They do not think I have any rotator cuff or tears anywhere because the amount of force I generate when they do the test exercises. They bitch that it's hard to examine me because I have so much shoulder mass, yeah right. Although I like the ego boost.

They told me that I should forget about getting back to my old numbers on the bench press. I told them yeah right, they need to help me fix this because I'm not stopping.

We are back to the supra or superspinatus again. I start physical therapy in 2 weeks. They will show me every exercise I am already doing and use ice, heat and ultrasound on me.

I need to strengthen the shoulder area with rotator cuff and rhomboid exercises and maybe the gap on the right side will not bother me. The doc said I can go back to the gym and hit the weights but go light. So I will start doing the shoulder rehab found here: http://www.elitefts.com/documents/shoulder-rehab.htm

Good article man...

I hear ya-had the same thing happen to me... I damaged the bursa around that same joint and it was seperated... they also said I had so much muscle that it kept them close together and made it hard to diagnose... LOL - I don't think we are average...

When I went the doc asked I was going to stop benching, and when I said no, he said "well I can give you come cortosone every now an then but it will still hurt and when you get older I will replace it with plastic" What a dick...

do the rehab and lay off the benching for a while... luckily mine happened right when I started grad school, so it was a convenient lay-off.... it will be tough but you will be back... I am... :)

My clavicles are in a similar state, they don't point in the same direction and one is almost at a 45 degree angle, i can still manage max bp's in the neighborhood of 400 raw, i just can't do heavy declines and dips i have to be real careful when i do them, lots of trap work has helped and so has rotator work........there's no reason you can't return to where you were at just as long as you believe you can.

I think if I hit the traps, shoulder gridle and rhomboids hard I will be back to over 400+ raw by the end of the year.

the bench will come back easier than you think (though you will be weak at first)... just rest the injured parts and work on rehabbing and strengthening the suppport muscles as you know....

take your time and do it right, you will be back soon enough...
