Welchia.b going crazy

Delinquent

Well-known member
A bunch of people just got a message from Norton saying that they had been infected with the welchi.b virus. The weird thing is that they all had the latest definitions which should have caught that virus. So now most people here are sitting around not taking calls b/c of some screw up from norton. Amazingly enough, it wasn't a user's fault as they had the latest virus definitions so who knows.

It's ALWAYS the end-users fault.
They will click on anything.

Anti-virus isn't the one clicking on stupid fucking e-mails.

I thought wlechia disabled itself after 04...?

in any case... if they have the latest critical patches it shouldnt cause them any problems... IF IF IF

LOL

In any case... if you guys need it.. I can tell you how to manually clean that virus without a scanner...

takes about 2 or 3 minutes. real easy to do.

Normally you are correct.

With welchia you are wrong. It is the first virus that had such high distribution in a long time that was able to propogate without any end user action. It took advantage of a flaw in the RPC and remotely infected the computer which then infected others, etc.

Oh, welchia is a worm, not a virus. Yeah, I forgot. Cuz I never get infected :P

yea most here did not have the latest critical updates which is why they got infected I guess. Strange as I haven't updated in a while yet I didn't get infected

Use a Unix based OS and you'll never get infected. I love my Suse Linux distro. Four years, no viruses.

SUSE rocks.
I use SUSE, MAC OSX and freebsd.

yea right. These people need help using MS Office products. I don't think Unix would be a good choice for them

What version of SuSE are you using now? I think I've got 7.1 and the 2.4 kernal.

I started with freebsd, downloaded the whole thing over a crap dialup connection when I was in the 10th grade I guess. I used OS X on the Macs in my hs when it was first released. Also a great OS but MACs are too damn expensive for me.
