Weightlifting followed by cardio ???

I usually spend about 45-60minutes lifting heavy weights and just go home afterwards. Would it be alright if I did like 20minutes of cardio on a threadmill or eliptical right after my lifting? Some people say you need to let your body rest so your muscles can heal and absorb as much nutrients as possible. Would my cardio be robbing my upper body from it's recovery period?

Thanks guys,
Vik

Im my experience yes, unless you have unlimited time to eat and rest. You have to learn your own body though and the only way is to try it and see if it slows your recovery. You do realize you need to be eating during that time frame following heavy lifting, right?

Yes I eat a good size nutritios meal 60-90 minutes before my exercise followed by a smaller meal about 60-90 minutes afterwards.

Any other people have some more insight???

I personally would switch those 2 meals up (lighter meal pre and heavier post) but we are getting off topic!

i do 30-90 minutes after lifting 4-5 days a week...im a fat ass though and am trying to shed pounds...

Okay so tonight I will be working legs, probably 30-40 minutes of heavy weights. Should I do cardio afterwards for like 20 minutes. Am I wasting my weight lifting time?

Thanks guys,
Vik

If you have the time then do cardio in the morning and then lift later in the day. Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. Your body will first look for food in your stomach but there won't be any! so next place your body is gonna look for food is in your muscles but the food will be the glucogen in your muscles, NOT your muscles! After about 20 mins of cardio your now drained of glycogen. Your body knows that your have more food stored in your fat cells. Anything past 20 minutes and your golden. So Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach is the way to go for fat loss. I know my body and i can do that.

But 20 min after lifting IS acceptable. The main thing that you need to know is that when you start breaking the barrier of 10% - 12% BF and start going into single digit BF your body will use whatever it can to fuel itself. This includes muscle.

Your body also loves a homeostasis and adaptation. Guess what? Keep it guessing. Mix it up with HIT trainign some days and other longer days. Until you have you BF in that area i wouldn't worry that much cuz you're probably not stepping on stage with more than that body fat anyway. I dunno my 2 cents.
