weightlifting belts

Alright i'm going to get myself a weightlifting belt.... i tried on my partners the other day and made me feel SOOO much more stable.
Should i be looking for any certain one specifically? or it makes not difference?
What's the price range for a good one so i don't buy some piece of crap.

unless you have some type of back problem, are learning to use your abs durring squats, or you just want them for heavy sets durring squats and deads...whats the point? might as well lift without it unless you absolutely need it

if it makes you feel more stable...just bring up your core because it could be a weakness maybe.

My sentiments exactly. I never where a weight belt anymore.

if you take a step back and build up your strength without one, you will be much less susceptible to injury IMO. im sure most would agree that they use theirs only during max lifts and competitions. other than that they train pretty much raw, for the most part.

i ditched mine when i noticed i was wearing them to do....all my workouts. i would put it on at the beginning, take it off when done. and i pulled my back all the time. now.....i dont even use straps and i never throw my back out.

I just want to use it for bench, incline bench, heavy shrugs, and squats since ill start those soon. But mainly for pressdowns.. i always have back pain after it because its too heavy for me. :(

for bench? incline bench? you shouldnt need back support on this. as a matter of fact if you arch your back a bit your abs should be lengthened(its hard to distend your abs when they are lengthened so it will be a moot point to use a belt). plus you are laying on a bench how much more support do you need?

tricep pressdowns. if your back is hurting, its because the muscles that keep your arms locked in are weak, your core should be tired but your back shouldnt hurt.

squats i could see. maybe shrugs and deads. but supported exercises and auxilliary lifts (arm work) it shouldnt be needed.

hit some situps and hypers once a week and you'll tighten up alot.

Uhhhhh....

I use one when I compete for sure!!! When I train...I go without whenever I can. I have been using a Rehband support belt when doing events to help a bit with the wear and tear on my lower spine a bit and to test it out on the events that I will be doing. You can get it from www.jackalsgym.com They are nice and helpful with strongman for sure because they give you a little bit of support while allowing you to breathe. You can also wear a regular belt over the top of it.

www.monstermuscle.com is a good store that I have had luck with. I also ordered an Inzer belt straight from Inzer...I'll dig up the toll free number if you need it.

If your back hurts after push downs, you are not doing them right.....never sacrifice form for lower back pain. lower the weight and try to keep it strict.

on another kind of related note.

aparently:
Fred "dr squat" hatfield, forgot to tighten his belt up before he broke a world record, and was wearing the belt "loose".
but because he had worked so hard on abdominal an lower back strength he didnt even need a tight belt

Go to testosterone.net and do a search for "beltless." Read the three articles called "Back Strong and Beltless." If you still wear a belt for everything but 1-3 rep max outs you are an idiot.

bignate: IMO my ass. That's a fact.

I never use one either and wouldnt consider it unless I was doing a 1 rep max dead or squat.

I haven't used one at all since I started training

and I've done a few squat and deadlift maxes without em either, you will lift more with a belt, a good reason not to wear one - I like to use weights my body can handle by itself.

Good point. I don't understand why powerlifting has become more about the "gear" (bench shirts, knee wraps, etc) than about the people lifting the weight.

You can lift lots of weight and have a great body without using a single prop.
