weighted vests

wats up guys i am training for my college baseball season this year....i took a year off of baseball now i am bak at it again.....i was wondering how a weighted vest would assist in my training......anyone have any experience....

basically looking to work on my speed and technique in the field and also my core and of course my over all strength.....

i am a 3rd baseman by the way
 
my buddy used to run with a weight vest on the beach for 2miles a day. he swears it improved his speed for football.
 
When I used to run track, I used to put weight on my legs and it helped. I guess weighed vests work in the same way.
 
Good job getting back into the game! As far as a weighted vest and training, the vest will work well, it would not be the only apparatus I would use though. To increase your speed and quickness for that matter, this is going to sound stupid but, you have to train and force your body to move faster. How do you do this? First thing is to strengthen your core and hip flexors. Next I would implement plyos, dynamic and ballastic stretching. Look up articles on the Golgi Tendon Reflex. If you have access to to a track, sprint work and more sprint work! To become quicker/faster an individual has to increase his/her priopreception (relationship between the nervous and muscular systems) this will allow the nerves to fire more quickly and thus the muscles to contract more quickly and powerful thus making a quicker/faster athlete.

Ive heard more than one person swear by them,,,must be something to it.
 
One of my friends at the gym cycles his use of a weight vest. He does his entire workout, minus bench press work, with the weight vest. He even used the vest for squats, deadlifts, arms, and shoulders. He felt it changed the center of gravity and that taxed the body different.
