weighted running for cardio

hey guys do any of yall do weighted running? i got a weight vest for christmas and i use that with ankle weights when i run. do any of you guys do that or something similar? i think it's awesome.

nope I think its ridculous, theres a guy at my gym that does db curls when on the treadmill & he looks like a retard. weights s/b HEAVY so your putting on muscle mass- cardio is for leaning out. run fast/lift heavy- do the two separately for best results. (not to mention your joints get totally f--ked up running w/ankel weights)

no no thats not why i'm doing it. i do it so that when i take it off i can run faster longer b/c i play lacrosse. i'm sure what you said would look really dumb though.

who do you play for? my ex played for the riptide & never did weighted cardio. mostly sprints & interval traininig. I think your settin yourself up for some serious injuries doing weighted cardio.

Judging from your "I think it's awesome", this is another of those "agree with me or I'll get e-bitchy" threads rather than a genuine question.

Nevertheless, I'd caution against using it for the simple reason that you'll be developing a different motor pattern from your natural, unweighted one that could actually make your running less efficient. IMO, you'd be better off focusing on regular speed and endurance training (or maybe some drills in your lacrosse gear).

i play for my school. so you think i should not use the ankle weights? how do they mess up your ankles? i just said that b/c i think it is, thats my opinion man chill out.

This is what I like about discussion forums, there's always room for discussions...
:)

it depends. what position do you play? if your middy or attack- your cardio training is totally different. dont you have a coach? & yeah bag the ankle weights & weighted vest...some christmas presents just are a bad idea..lol
