Weight requirement for AS...

babymonkey

New member
I have seen in several posts that guys are saying to people on the board that they don't weigh enough to take AS. I just saw a post that told the guy he is a idiot for taking AS at 6' 135lbs. I don't know the guys age but if he is in his mid 20's then AS (IMO) is what he needs. I have always had a low level of Testosterone in my body. When I was 14 The Dr. gave AS to boost me into manhood. At 22 years of age I was 5'8 and 115-120lbs. I had been working out for years and tried creatine, protein and weight gainer. The heaviest I ever got was 125lbs. Granted I didn't have access to the info on the web like I do now, I still made an effort to put on weight. I was benching 185lbs, so I wasn't weak. I turned to AS for help. I am now 140lbs and still find it hard to put on weight without AS. I am not saying that AS is the right way to go for everyone but is it possible that the puny guys with low Test levels should take AS even if they are under 150lbs? By NO means am I saying teenagers that are skinny should even think about doing AS, but some adults have problems puting on weight for whatever reason. I was told myself not to do Oxandralone till I weigh atleast 185lbs. I never plan on weighing 185lbs. Does this mean I should never do Ox? Anyone is welcome to comment on this. Also, I keep hearing EAT,EAT,EAT. How can you eat all day long if you are not hungry. I used to force food down my throat to gain weight. Do low Test levels cause you to have low appetite also?

When someone tells another that they weigh too little to be taking AS, they are making an arbitrary judgment of their past experience/efforts with weight training. Quite often they are right...if someone is 6 feet tall but only 140lbs., on average, they probably haven't been busting their ass in the gym everyday for the past 5 years...however, there are exceptions to this. A truly hard-gainer who has been very dedicated and educated himself about proper training and diet can still find himself at a very low weight. I think if this person has truly exhausted their capabilities as a natural athlete, and if they are educated enough about AS, then a newbie cycle might be there next step.

My point is...no one can make a valid judgment of someone else's eligibility for using AS by ONLY knowing their body proportions. There are many more important factors in my mind.

True...but nobody is going to tell me that 6' at 135lbs is a normal weight for a man, even for a woman.

Something is wrong...whether it's low test levels...lack of food(probably the case) or anything else...you need to find the root of the problem and address the issue before you even consider using AS.

I knew someone who was 6'1 at 135lbs. Started lifting and got up to 155lbs whithin 2 months. Eventually, he got up to 195lbs in a couple of years and this guy lifts like shit.

Nobody said BBing was easy...you start out with no appetite or you're a fat ass with an out of control appetite.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about "hardgainers"!

I worked as a personal trainer so I know that 95% of hardgainers are not TRUE hard gainers.

You have as much a chance of being a top level athlete(pro caliber) as you do of being a true hardgainer.

Most of the time lack of gains can be attributed to:

Diet: what/when/how much you eat

Training: weak links can slow you down and prevent you from gaining mass, you will not have huge arms if your hips and legs aren't strong. The body won't allow it. How to spot a
steroid user: a guy with 19 inch arms and 21 inch legs.

Routines, splits, form...\

Rest/lifestyle: how much sleep do you get and are you out drinking every night?

If you can't gain weight naturally roids aren't going to do much for you either, you need to eat.

For those out there too lazy to count calories or bitch and whine about not being able to eat 6 times a day, then they shouldn't bother picking up weights expecting to get heavier either. If you want it you will find a fucking way to get there.

I am a hardgainer. A true hardgainer. Ask my endocrynologist. Having said that I realize the majority of the people who say they are hardgainers really just are looking for the easy way to pack on weight by using AS. They usually spend thousands of dollars to get minimal gains in their upper body and none in their lower body. Looking at it from the other side I see the subject should probably be looked at as a stereotype that all hargainers are really just too lazy to lift. Some comments have upset me in the past because I know what I have gone thru to gain weight, but I would rather see those comments about AS is the last thing you need to be doing then to see a skinny teenager take AS and not eat or lift properly and mess his body up just to be cool.

What does your endocrinologist say about you using AS?

Once upon a time, there was a man who weight 137 pounds at 6 foot 1, and is now close to 300 pounds, he said it best when he said EAT MOTHERFUCKER.

He is up to 7,700 calories per day average, almost 4 times what the average person eats per day.

As I said, you need to eat more, your blessing is you will probably always stay lean like Flex Wheeler, your curse is you will never be as big and you must eat more than someone like myself who has to watch what he eats or else he gets fat along with the muscle.

EAT ETA EAT NO MORE EXCUSES

Good Luck

I don't think I buy the "hardgainer" line. As BigAndy69 has already pointed out there are plenty of other factors which are almost certainly missing out of the equation. If a "hardgainer" were to count every calorie with macronutrient breakdown, and time ingested for a week they could figure out where the problem lies.

A few good point were touched on, but most people are not suffering from low test levels (like babymonkey). We need to stereotype when we give advice because otherwise it would take forever to give out any info (after the million questions required to find out if the person is a true hardgainer).

Sometimes we are wrong (such as in the case of babymonkey) but most of the time we are right.

The endocrynologist I went to was over 10 years ago. He prescribed me AS. He did not say eat more and you will be fine.

yeah, i am a bit tired of hearing people on hear rag on someone becuase they don't weigh enough naturally. some guys have a shitty ass hormonal make-up, plain and simple. mine pretty well sucks. yours is worse by what you say. give me some AAS and the like, and i grow just fine. i got the frame for it, just don't seem to make any testosterone! estrogen, yes plenty of that! :D my training and diet/supp/training regimen is perfect....yet i have the hardest time gaining naturally. it sucks. Don't listen to that shit, and do what you feel is best for your goals. BTW: is that your wife again the avatar? you sure have a hot ass wife for a skinny little horomonally challenged guy! lol. you must be rich.

you have to eat to grow on gear too. it is not like gear just makes you big. you got to feed it to grow. and if you are a "hardgainer" then you have to do dedicate yourself that much more. you think 7700 calories is easy like Dr. M does... fuck no that is like a fucking job. props to Doc, i try for 4500 and that is a bitch.

What you should do is go in to the doctor and get your test levels checked. If they are low than you have to make a choice. Go on HRT for life or stay the way you are. Bottomline. If they are normal than you are an ectomorph and will never be big and you will have to eat more and train harder than anyone else. So doing AS is probably not a good idea as the risk to benefit factor wouldn't be worth it.

As far as what weight someone should be at before doing AS I would say there is a ballpark range but a lot of things also factor in to it. Like height, training experience, BF %, etc. Also remember that in the end the decision is up to you. There are a lot of guys who do AS that are small, weak and still look like shit.

LoL man not me, I can eat 3000 calories a day and maintain 230, although I'm looking to add a hopefull 20 (maybe more?) pounds on cycle #2.

For those that are born skinny though you have to eat more than normal people, thats just the way it is. Like I said, you will most likely always be low body fat which is great, but you will also have to eat more which sucks in its own right. Eat every 3 hours to avoid catabolism and get those calories in your diet, dont worry about eatin clean unless you start to get fat, start eating yogurt, drink milk, eat ice cream if you have to. Make sure you get 1-2g protein per pound bodyweight, and for the rest of your caloric intake pig out if need be.

I was going to stay out of this but what the hell. I am a HARD GAINER. I have always had high test levels, but a metabolism like you wouldn't beleive. I am 6ft and only 180 right now. I am also eating three chicken breast while typing this. I have been averaging more than 5000 cals per day, hell yesterday I got 2400 cals just from milk. A freekin gallon of milk. I have been training for 8 years, I train good enough to place in the US Natioanals twice in Taekwondo ( lol no flaming at Taekwondo It was full conact no pads not the pussy crap). I know my training is up to par. I know my bod. I can say for a fact that a "hard gainer" is a very valid statement. I say 5000 cals a day is a job. then I hear people speaking of 7000 HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!! All I have been doing is eating and lifting....and loving it. My point is 90% of the people I know if they ate and trained like me would either be obbese or packing on some serious mass in a very short time. No I am not bitching about genetics like some say at least we are genetically lean. I probably couldn't get over 6% BF if I tried, but there is such thing as a "hard gainer" And I cannot continue to eat like this for the rest of my life. I will have to file chapt. seven just to feed myself.

Maybe you're hyperthyroidic?

I was noce 6'4 and 175. I am now 6'5 and 295, down from 320. I heard the eat eat eat thing too. But I listened. I ate 8 meals a day. Everytime anyone saw me I was eating. Yes chickena and rice, but pizza doughnuts and KFC too. About 7000 to 9000 cals per day. One can of corned beef hash has about 1000 cals in itself. As long as your protien is up and your busting yout ass on the iron, you will grow. If you get really soft, just diet for 6 weeks, and start up again.

A few points:
1. You guys have to remember that training naturally is a hell of a lot slower than using AS. I was at a point (after 8 yrs of training) where I couldn't even gain 5 lbs of muscle in a YEAR before trying AS. So take your time. Eat and train....you will eventually grow.
2. As T20 reminded me....you need to cut out all extra calorie-burnining activity (e.g. Taekwondo) if you want to grow. I did college track and lifted and didn't gain a pound. Once I stopped track I gained 10lbs in a few months.

I second to that! I consider myself at least mostly a hard gainer. It is a struggle to pack on the weight, but one thing that makes it easier is if you cut out all unnecessary activities that burn calories such as walking places, recreational sports, too much cardio. If you are doing these things daily, it will be that much harder to grow. I lay around and take naps all day now and hardly move from my recliner and computer chair LOL!

Damn Bigbabay I see where you got your name lol that is some serious cals. Dr. X I agree 100%. Throughout my training anytime I wanted to move up in weight class cardio was cut. Only lifting and power strikes were performed. Like right now. I sit instead of standing, walk instead of running eat sleep and train. I try to be concious 24-7 about anything that could burn cals. The only thing I can't do without is sex. The TEST is killing me. I am trying my damndest ot cut that down to once per day. Never thought I would be saying that.

Yes warbird that is my wife in my avitar again. Thanks for the compliment. I did have some money till I met her. Now I am broke as HELL. BTW: The Moutain Dew commercial with the Trans Am in it is my favorite commercial. I always loved Trans Ams especially the late 60's and early 70's. Now, let me get this right. You guys are saying if I sit on my ass and eat all day long I will gain weight. Does this mean I will gain muscle or fat? I don't want to get fat.
