Weaker in the morning?

Question for everyone. When i workout in the morning, my strength is disgusting. However in the afternoon or late at night, my strength is great. Does this have anything to do with my CNS not being completely ready in the morning? If so, will it ever adapt... morning workouts are beginning to be very discouraging.

I do know that it takes me awhile to get going, and so I have more energy in the afternoon, or evenings.

I also retain more water throughout the day, so that in itself will contribute to my strength.

Charles Pouliquin says not to work out for atleast 3 hours after waking because your nervous system will not yet be "awake".

I wake up, eat, eat and hit the gym 1 1/2 hours later, and have great workouts. everyone is different though i guess. If you train better at night, then stick to pm workouts.

wish i could bro, work 12 hours a day and by the end of the day all i can think about is my bed. Guess i'm going to have to load up on a ton of food right before every workout..

I can't work out in the morning regardless if I am awake or not, I think it is because of the 8 or so hours without having anything to eat.

I have the best work out 3 hours after I wake up, Wake up eat rest for about hour and a half than hit the gym. Your test levels are the highest in the morning, they go down at night. Try using a lil pick me up before work out.

I have no strength in the morning. I work out at night, after dinner. I've always been a night-owl though. Even though the adult world forces me to wake in the early AM, on long vacations I still revert (after 20years) to my college pattern of bed at 3AM wake at noon. I think it's just your circadian rhythms; go with your body, as it's the master in bodybuilding. . .

I NEVER have had a quality workout before Noon...I need at least four meals in me before i hit the weights, at least 4. First thing in the morning is like...lifting at 8pm at night and you haven't eaten since noon...way too much time in between meals to fuel anything :p

Well just shows to go ya!!! I workout in the morning on an empty stomach...have been for years. I can workout at night and have but my preference (which I rarely stray from) is in the morning. As much as we want to believe it is a physical thing (ie; food, sleep, test levels ect...) I think it comes down to a comfort level. How do you feel when you walk into the gym. Does your brain say "I'm gonna kill today" or does it say "this is the wrong time for me...I want to go home". I know there is plenty of studies that say this and say that...bottom line, strongest muscle in your body is your brain. Just my 2cc.

Technically test is higher in the am. I can't workout in the am. i get nauseated. Afternoon to early evening is best for me.

I don't get the test thing, maybe someone can explain it to me.

I mean most of my test now a days is not natural test, so why would this play a role??

You need to allow some time before you start training when you wake up. Get your fluids in and a good solid meal. If I wake up at 7 I will eat breakfast, take a shower, wake-up good, then grab a protein bar or some fruit and head to the gym, I like to allow at least 2 hrs from the time I wake up until the time I hit the iron., i think that getting hydrated is crucial bc in the early am you dont have all the nutrients and fluid that you aquire thoughout the day for your evening workouts. I like working out in the morning bc you havent done anything (work, etc,) to wear yourself out,. But like I said , you have to have food and fluids in you and allow them time to get into your system. If you are still dragginf, then try a little green tea and caffeine stack to pep you up.

I hate morning cardio, however thremorexin & some shots of caffine gets me going ,I hit the weights around 5:30 pm that day!

Natural testosterone levels are highest in the morning but if you're "on cycle" you don't have any natural test anyway so time of day plays NO role.

Also, there are two big reasons why a person wouldn't be at full strength first thing in the morning; when you first wake up you are dehydrated and your glycogen stores are depleted from going 9-12 hours without eating.

Having depleted glycogen stores is great if you want to do cardio and force your body to burn fat calories but it sucks for strength training. Without that blood sugar to draw energy from you cannot lift with intensity and you will not grow.

As a few people in this thread have stated, it takes about 3 hours after you eat breakfast and get fluids in your body to get recharged and ready for an intense workout.

For years I've had to train in the mornings due to working evening shifts, and I have never managed to be strong in the mornings. I would eat and go in 2.5 hours later, and no matter how much I warmed up, my joints hurt and my strength levels were way down. Best time for me is after I've been awake 5+ hours and have eaten at least twice

they say you burn more cals in the morning, but im sooooo much weaker in the mornings so i work out late evenings.

This being the case, do a longer warmup (abs) and use ECA which will bring up that CNS response like a bitch in heat.

Yes, it's probably better that you do cardio in the morning and lifting in the afternoon/evening but if you MUST do you lifting in the morning use your ECA.

Hopet his helps, nugga.......

ditto

I had the same problem and had to switch it up and train in the PM, which sucks. I like working out in the AM but my performance just sucks. Now I still go in in the AM for cardio before I eat breakfast, Our treadmills face huge windows and were sitting right on the lake so it's inspiring to start your day running while you watch the sun rise over the lake. Set's the pace for a good day, which usually keeps me from ripping people heads off (Side, from all this test)
